I'm going to have to downvote, I'm afraid - nothing personal at all OP to you or your company.

This "game" is the least value for money I could have ever conceived - the fact that they have charged for what essentially boils down to a 5-minute story-related demo with some reskinned "missions" on the same map at different times of the day is disgusting to me.

Be warned, this is not worth a dollar for anyone seeking any real value. Would recommend picking up the rest of the series for roughly the same price though - one of my most favourite franchises for around a decade which has now unfortunately been sullied by this cash-grab :/

Going to have to disagree and say that 20 bucks is a great price especially for fans of MGS. Albeit short, ground zeroes has great gameplay which can give you hours of entertainment with the main story and side missions. The small open world is a great sign on things to come for MGS5 in september.

      • +1

As a long time MGS fan, I have to disagree. Fantastic new mechanics and it is very promising, but it's also a capitalist scam. People defend this with "If you do all the extra content it makes it worth it", but you can use that excuse for literally every game ever. Of course a game lasts longer if you play it again or go for 100%.

This game has been $5 on steam and other PC places, and that's about what you should pay for it. Or get it for free off the front of a magazine (Oh wait, that's right, it's not actually a demo (but it is though))

        • same hear, long time fan back from the days of the nes.

I agree that the game itself could have been a bit more in content but the fact is the game is very short for the RRP.

if you haven't brought it yet, then it a good time to pick it up cheaper here.

one would expect it to be repackage into another bundle with artbook for another 99$ with limited edition written all over it. it should have been included with the mgs legacy edition.

great price, but I already have a copy.

        • @godofpizza: You'll be able to get it bundled when they remake MGS5 on PS5, if the current next generation trend is anything to go off.

      • +1

It's not really worth that much as other people has mentioned, the "game" is short with added side missions. This is more of an introduction, a bridge of what to expect in the phantom pain game, a Demo. $20 is a bit too high imo. I would pay $10 max for this game considering I'm not a MGS fan but i love watching my cousin play. I'm not that patient in playing sneaking games XD…

    • +2

I agree - I almost bought it 'reduced' at eb games for $36, but thankfully they didn't have the disk. Got it for $6 in the 'big in Japan' psn sale. Even that was over priced - this plays like the free demo for mgs 2, though that demo at least had a boss fight in it! It took me two hours including cut scenes, and I'm a slow gamer.

The gameplay's great - I love the series to bits, and it's good to have a play of the new Fox engine. It's true too that you have a big area to play with and you can experiment if you want to. This should really be a free download though.

The missions seen like an after thought too. I had it glitch on me and tell me I had taken out a bad guy they I hadn't even seen.

Hopefully mgs V : the phantom pain is a little bigger!

    • +2

one of my most favourite franchises for around a decade which has now unfortunately been sullied by this cash-grab

I think that's a little ridiculous. One "bad" game doesn't "sully" a series.

In any case, this is not a valid negative vote.

      • +1

It'd also take a lot more than a capitalist mistake to make MGS3 less of a fantastic masterpiece.

        • +1

Absolutely agreed - MGS3 is one of the best games I have ever played.

      • +2

In any case, this is not a valid negative vote.

        Spot on!

I'm not sure when personal dislike of a product apparently became a valid reason for a negative vote…especially in light of such overwhelming disparity to so many objective product review sources???

Typical OzB head-in-the-sand moderation at play here though, I reported same to the mods hours ago & they've been conspicuously silent on the topic.

        • I personally dislike broken TVs, even when they are advertised as broken TVs and are the best price around for them; I infer from your comment that you'd think downvoting the broken TV deal would be wrong..?

(just an example - I have a TV in front of me).

      • In any case, this is not a valid negative vote.

We disagree. A low price does not a bargain make.

I think that's a little ridiculous. One "bad" game doesn't "sully" a series.

Hasn't sullied what came before it, but I doubt I'll be rushing out for the Phantom Pain any time soon. I kinda prefer not being taken advantage of by a company.

        • You can disagree all you'd like, but your dislike of the game is objectively an invalid reason for a negative vote. Please refer to the voting guidelines.

I personally dislike broken TVs, even when they are advertised as broken TVs and are the best price around for them; I infer from your comment that you'd think downvoting the broken TV deal would be wrong..?

Again, a negative vote on this deal, due to your personal dislike of broken TVs, would also be objectively invalid. If the TVs are advertised as broken, then, at the right price, there are undoubtedly some people that would consider it a bargain (for parts, decoration ANYTHING).

TL;DR: You cannot downvote a deal just because you don't like it. Please read the voting guidelines.

        • @johnno07:

I have read them - it is admittedly vague, but from what I see, there is no reason my vote was invalid.

Compare all other games in the same price point. Now count how many hours of gameplay are in them - bit of a discrepancy there.

The community clearly disagrees with me in terms of votes, but I see nothing to say that comparing the value with alike items as poor, thus rendering it a bad deal as against any voting rules.

(but sorry, yeah disregard the TVs analogy - I hadn't slept for 2 days and my brain was mush - the analogy doesn't fit and you're quite right about that)

A better analogy - a no-brand non-HD TV with no features on it…it's the cheapest of its kind at $500 because no one sells that TV anymore - they are given away for free on Gumtree.

That's a bad deal and deserves a neg. This is exactly what Konami are up to with this paid-for demo.

        • @Andy-Laa:

They aren't really vague. There are three possible cases where a neg vote is allowed:

          1. The deal is not the cheapest available
          2. Defective product
          3. Major issues with retailer

There is no option for "I personally do not like/do not think this item is good value". The voting system is objective. Your reason for voting in the negative was subjective.

While I do appreciate you admitting that your last analogy was no good, your new one isn't either. A non-branded TV is generic. If the deal for the it was $500, and a equivalent branded TV was $400, you can vote the deal down. Various TVs can be equivalent. A specific videogame cannot.

    • +1

Um…the EB links are not the same game, more expensive and used, not new Xbox 360 version. And price is not even delivered….not sure why you even linked at all. For this game, we already mentioned EB's more expensive price above!

Question for you @Andy-Laa : is your actual reason for your neg: “I don't like the deal”?
      • +3

He's posting a link to different game; The MGS HD Collection on PS3 and Xbox 360. I believe he's trying to say that if people want to play Metal Gear, then they should play the HD Collection of MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker. A bit silly on his part for not specifying that.

I believe he negged because he doesn't like the actual game in question (Which is hardly OP's fault.)

        • +5

Yes, exactly. We bust our butts working for the best price in the world, exclusive to Ozbargain. I'm surprised the community hasn't reported his neg and downvoted his comment for not playing by OzBargain rules

        • @sellingoutsoon:

I'm surprised the community hasn't reported his neg…

As noted above, I did so hours ago; and I can't have been the only one; the mods have simply chosen to do nothing about it. Scary that he had at least two people willing to support it with positive comment votes…

Rather than arguing points with these kind of people, I have just been reporting breaches of OzB rules to the mods of late…it's becoming rather pointless though, where once you'd get a reply with the result of a report, now in addition to the utter lack of actual moderation, you don't even get a reply. Piss poor IMHO…

        • @sellingoutsoon:

Geez, calm down rep - it's been revoked.

I feel the neg was valid based on the fact that it is not worth the money for the amount of content it delivers - proven by near-all other AAA title games and the amount of content they deliver for that price point.

People are allowed to have opinions on the matter - I made sure to say it had nothing to do with your company or you personally, it was the deal itself.

Question for you @Andy-Laa : is your actual reason for your neg: “I don't like the deal”?

          No, I've covered that above.

The EB links are for games worth playing, that's all - I did mention in my post about that.

        • @Andy-Laa: Thanks for your reply. It's cool to have an opinion about any product, but your vote was invalid, and was acted upon by the OzBargain community for that reason. You see, unless the actual product listed is "significantly different" to what is advertised, or it doesn't do what is advertised, (noting that we rely on this community to help us ensure accuracy before listing items) you're not allowed to neg vote the deal if you don't like it. I hope this is clearer now, or in the words of another member above:

"I'm not sure when personal dislike of a product apparently became a valid reason for a negative vote…especially in light of such overwhelming disparity to so many objective product review sources"

        • @sellingoutsoon:

That's what I'm saying - We differ on the opinion that the neg was invalid.

My backing being all other games in the same price point providing many hours more content than this.

        • @Andy-Laa: Sorry, no offence, but I don't think you're getting what everybody is saying. It's about whether this was the best deal for the product, not the product itself. This is OzBargain, not a product review site. So the point is that it was the best deal for the product, lots of people checked, on and off OzBargain. And you have to respect their intellect, time and effort in checking. As for the product itself, we don't comment on that, but at least 238 different people said it was at least "Great", as outlined below, and in the deal. It's OK if you don't agree with them, maybe tell them on their website? Because that's what they're for. But not OzBargain. Best to leave it at that now. Thank you.

          Reviews:
          IGN rating: 8.0 “Great”
IGN community: 8.3 “Great” (from 174 ratings)
          Metascore: 80

          Gamespot: 8 “Great”
Amazon: 4 out of 5 stars (from 61 reviews)
