Arcosteel Double Walled Ceramic Mugs 73% off - $2 @ Woolworths

670

Saw this in the most recent catalogue (page 8). It would be nation wide I assume. $2 is the lowest price that I have seen. Previously 67% off here.

I have two of these for my morning coffee. Fits in nicely in the car cup holder and is quite pleasant to use. Fairly easy to clean. Do keep in mind that it only holds about 250-300mL (a bit less than your standard cup). It keeps moderately warm but heat escapes after about 2-3 hours.

Available in red or black designs.

Isn't 330ml of coffee too much?

    • +1

Even if you don't drink it all, the more you have the longer it will keep warm.

    • +1

Correction: I think the ceramic ones only hold 250mL.

The glass ones probably hold 350mL (not on sale though).

    • +8

i drink Coffee out of a 1.2 liter flask. Still not enough to last the morning. 330ml wouldn't even wet my mouth.

      • I feel like the son of a zombie too until I get large quantities of coffee into me

        • I must be a relative too lol

      • And i drink Coffee out of a 3L hydration pack with caffeine patches over my whole body

        • +3

Better to snort pure caffeine powder if you're hardcore.

        • +3

Who has time to snort?! I hacked my insulin pump for constant supply of caffeine straight to my blood stream.

          @fryandlaurie:

caffine enema… is where you should be going..

@Baghern: except it does give one the trots and has health issues according to a recent Choice magazine or Checkout (can't remember which).

      • +2

I love my coffee. In small amount coffee has health benefits, but 330ml to 1.2L….well I guess it's fine if it's diluted.

        • Yeah, I usually drink long black coffee anyway.

  • Does the lid fully seal the cup (i.e. you would need to take the lid off to drink or does it have a hole in the lid (like the disposable coffee cups you get from cafes) for you to sip through?

    • +2

There is a hole/opening in the lid. The lid is flexible and is made from a silicone type of material I think. Doesn't smell or taste weird either.

    • It does indeed have a hole to drink through but due to them being poorly manufactured they also leak from the lid constantly. Stay away from them (I've owned several).

been looking for one of these

    • ummm… wally isn't even hidden, try looking a bit harder. ☺

    • Someone tell me where the cup is…

These are on sale every 2nd week

  • don't waste your money, the one I bought last week barely keep my tea warm for 10 minutes. Spend more money and buy a Thermos.

    • I agree, but it's a good backup thing to have for $2 I reckon.

    • +3

A Thermos would definitely be better, especially if you keep the lid on. These do make a difference though.

I did a test comparing a regular mug, this ceramic cup, and the glass version of it. I filled them all up with the same amount of boiling water (200mL), logged the temperature every 5 seconds, and measured the time it took to reach 40 degrees from 80 degrees. I didn't keep the lids on as I was comparing it to a regular mug which doesn't normally come with a lid.

The mug took 32 minutes, the ceramic double-walled glass 42 minutes, and the glass version 44 minutes. So simply using one of these cheap cups (now $1.20! - in that store anyway) buys you 30% extra time to enjoy your hot beverage.

Graph is here if anyone's curious.

That's dedication to the cause mate.

        +1 for the effort!!

  • +1

As a Coffee cup these are really good, they do keep the heat and not warm to touch, and small enough to fit into the car cup holder snugly! They are also double walled.
Nobody drinks Latte from a Thermos.
Will go get a couple more.

The saucepans are on sale too. Not a bad price for decent quality stuff.
