OzBargain iOS/Android App (or Similar)

Hey everyone,

I know we've all wanted to have access to an official mobile app for a long time.

Currently I've got the OzBargain RSS feed parsed through IFThisThenThat (IFTTT) to look for keywords, and while handy, it's not ideal.

Two things I'd like to know:

  • Is there a mobile app in development? or thoughts of one?
  • Are there other apps that people use with the site that have good support.

I've asked a couple of existing members and the features we are really looking for are the ability to have push notifications as soon as a matched "want" has fired.

The other option is having a personal RSS feed directly from the Notifications Function, that way we can use whatever feed reader we have to be auto-notified of a deal match.

Clearly the enablement of personal notifications feed would be the easiest to implement.

Thoughts?

Tried Search Alerts? If a keyword matches it would fire an email to you. If you are using Gmail you can put the email into a special label, and then set your phone to only notify when a new email comes in with that label. At least that's how it can be done on Android. YMMV.

  • Actually, I didn't know this feature was available!

    Thanks!

I'll be using it for sure!

Is there a wiki page or a features guide that runs through these features?

    • We usually announce them in Site Discussions forum however OzBargain site itself is actively developed and can fluctuate quite a bit. Good idea to do a search and otherwise just ask.

  • Idk about iPhone but on Android you can make a bookmark widget on home screen that when clicked opens your web browser and goes to ozbargain or whatever website you wish.
I always use the mobile version of ozbargain with chrome.

    • Yeah, not what I'm looking for. More about how to get deals auto alerting to the phone.

      Thanks anyway!

  • I use "Big Bargain" on IOS which is reasonable for a quick check of current deals.

    • I would use that, but it doesn't look like it's had an update in ages.

There is the alternative client called ozBn, but I can't vouch for it's validity or security, so no deal.

      • This one here? Looks just like our mobile website wrapped inside an app, and they are charging $1.29 for it! Argh.

Edit: ozBn is developed by Mobilith Pty Ltd and most of their apps are junks or spammy.

        • Yeah that's the one, I was wondering if it was officially supported.

Glad to know that it's not a supported app (not that I was going to purchase it anyhow) I'll make sure to tell the people I know not to get it.

Mind you, if an official app came out I'd love to know.

  • So no app ? Dont force me to do one…
