You too can have a car that looks like this !!!

This is not Legal limit, legally you are not allowed to put 15% VLT in Australia its only allowed probably in one Territory NT all others are 35% i guess i may be wrong.

    • 35% is the legal limit in most states, in WA you can have up to 20% tint on windows behind the driver pillar.

Not many cops actually check tint level, but in saying that 15% tint is a bit hard to see out of at night going around corners and reversing etc.

    • Will it be legal for rear sides and rear window?

      • Only for commercial vehicles and certain passenger panel vans.

      • If yours is a Prime Ministerial car, yes

    • This is not Legal limit,

The rear window of a ute, and back and rear windows of panel vans can be as dark as you want, even 0% VLT.

My nice comfy 4WD is registered with a shape code of PVF (Panel van Four-wheel Drive), which means the back windows can be darker than 35% VLT. (But I prefer good vision, so they're not tinted beyond the factory glass tint.)

Its a grey area. On my van I have 5%, because the same van can also be optioned without windows at all in those locations. On the driver and passenger windows it can only be down to 35%.

I did mine diy BTW. You need to count on screwing up a couple of times. You only get one shot at laying it perfectly. If you trap crap in there, or crease it. You need to start over with a new sheet.

Its been fine for over 3 years I think the same stuff as here.

    • That's my theory, if some trucks and vans don't even have rearview mirrors or fully covered rear and rear side windows (or no windows at all) why can't a passenger car have tinting?

At the moment I have perforated static cling shades on my rear side windows. My response if I get questioned is that they're temporary and they're shades, not tinting. You see SUVs with those 'sock' shades which are supposedly legal. My look a lot more 'professional' and don't blow around in the wind.

      • Do you use these cling shades on the clear or tinted windows?, I've still got these from my old un-tinted car

  • Scratch resistant, two ply 2mil thick film

2mil thick? What is this? bulletproof / bullet resistant film? why two ply?

35% VLT is the absolute minimum for cars in NSW, when i had mine done professionally i asked for a darker tint, they refused to do it.

Edit: thanks @stumo for the clarification abt "2mil" thickness

    2mil == 2thou

    • I see, yes 2 thou would make more sense

I can barely get a screen protector on a phone without bubbles and crap sticking to it, let alone a whole windscreen.

  • letting 15% light through at night is the same as wearing 85% tinted sunglasses at night. It is not legal to wear this type of sunglasses at night, so definitely not legal for front windscreens

  • can you use this on home windows & doors

    • if glass, yes.

  • Rep, any deals on 35%?
