Coffin.... yes I want a coffin

Looking to make a coffee table for the man cave using a coffin but am struggling where I can find any for reasonable cheap prices.
Don't need a lid (as I'm gonna put a glass top on it, can be damage stock, but unfortunately not "2nd hand"

Anyone know where I could possibly find such an item?
(I'm SA based)

      You got a shovel?
      You got a coffin!

If he's willing to shop around he'll probably dig something up…

You can always dig up a great deal with a trusty shovel.

Good advice. Hoping won't follow through with it but! One dilema if does….

Look around for a stage coffin, it will be heaps cheaper than one actually meant for interment.

A mate used to have one in his spare bedroom for shits & giggles, it cost him under $100 from a closing down theatre! ;)

    • yeah, I've seen a few hire places have them… but I guess as your mate found, unless the place is closing down they're probably unlikely to part with it.

      • Please disregard, joelab beat me to it! ;)

So you want one without coffin up too much money for it?

    • correct ;)

        Dead right.

        • No bones about it.

    • I think this is a good idea, and you can turn part of it into an esky/beer storage.

    • Would love to see the neighbours faces when they see you building one of these.

Reminds me of the joke. "A friend will help you move, a good friend will help you move a body".

    • An old schoolmate of mine has been in gaol for 15+ years (thus far) for helping a mate move a body…ironically, the mate (i.e. the killer) got out about 5yrs ago!!! True story!

      • If they guy got 15+ years I think there was more going on than just helping the mate move the body.

        • Nope, AFAIK he got a late night call to help move/bury body…that's it, dumb move all around IMHO. I've done some sketchy stuff in my time, but even I'd never have agreed to something like that.

I'm not sure if you're aware of how the justice system works, but judges are notoriously tougher on conspirators than prime offenders…much in the same way receiving stolen goods incurs a tougher sentence than the actual theft.

        • @StewBalls: thats all new to me?

Sounds like a good reason to kill someone

  • Crematorium might sell you one cheap.

  • Making one is an option (was thinking old pallets) but that takes time.
Always thought Ozbaraginers can find bargains everywhere…

I wonder if I can buy one now and use it later

    • wouldn't waste my time on pallets, mdf is cheap enough and probably more suitable for making a coffin, some non-structural timber is only about $1.20 a metre which is ok to do the frame with.

I'm a member of a Hard Rubbish facebook group in Melbourne - two members on opp sides of town found coffins out on hard rubbish in the same week. Spooky. See if you have a HR facebook group where ur & ask there 😯

      wow… hard rubbish facebook groups!?!?!
Never knew they existed but will have to look it up.

  • finally one turns up on gumtree and ebay (same item / seller) but they want more for this damaged coffin than i could actually get a new one for.

  • Go to a crematorium and ask for a second hand one.
    Easy to take home !
