Some personal notes:

My Panasonic TV has the Withings app (so not just for smartphones or computers), so you can also check everything on that. Including lean body mass.
There have been firmware updates, now these scales also tell you the weather forecast for the day.
Best home scales I know about (people that do their research normally end up with these over the higher marketed Fitbit)

Fitbit aria is cheaper and does the same thing (if not better).

see kogan sell it for $127 or you can try the good guys @ $147 if you prefer local warranty.

    • I do not agree but that's debatable… Are you talking about Fitbit or Withings for $127??? They are in a different league…

    • I have tried them both and I still prefer the WS50

      • +1

        any reason?

        • -5

you didn't bother giving a reason why should I? :)

        • +2

@GregFiona: keep negging if you want but:
          WS-50 max 180kg vs 158kg Aria
          WS-50 larger display-more pixels
WS-50 latest firmware update shows weather info on the scale
WS-50 has got air quality sensor(CO2)
WS-50 displays your daily steps(sync with withing app/health app on iOS)

Now, I know that the Aria costs less but can you please explain why the Aria and does the same thing (if not better)???

        • +2

@GregFiona: I think some people own an Aria so they feel bad seeing a deal on a better product like this. That's all I can think of that would explain the negs

      • +3

I was looking at them about 12 to 18 months, and I think every review I read that covered both had the Withings out on top.

The body composition from bioelectrical impedance is not very accurate and should only be relied upon as a relative measure providing you can keep other variables constrained. The rest of the outputs this unit provides other than weight seem unnecessary.
If you have the time you'd be far better off learning how to use body fat callipers

    • Spot on. Hope you don't have sweaty feet

    • Amazing how you've still been negged for this comment stating fact. Some people out there clearly hate or fear science.

  • Great scale, got it from amazon last year.

This is chinese language intro of the mi_scale. Hope Google translate helps. And maybe it will open our eyes to what's out there.

99CNY. I find it hard to justify paying that much AUD for an inferior product such as this.

    • not bad. but it's bluetooth only.

    • No BIA/Body Fat measurement.

But that number isn't great on BIA anyway. Might as well just go off of a glance in the mirror. If you've got too much body fat you're pretty well aware of that, the number isn't going to make a big difference.

A handy and cheap way to avoid having to note down the weight all the time.

Hell, if you're one of those people who gets paranoid/stressed when they check their weight often you could get weighed but not look when the number comes up and have the app record it and look back on accurate weight tracking results 3 months down the line.

EDIT Decided to get one of these because I'm lazy and can't be bothered recording my weight.

Cheapest place I could find it was gearbest: http://www.gearbest.com/home-gadgets/pp_168281.html ($19 USD ~ $26.10 AUD)

EDIT2 Holy crap, shipping is a killer. Brings the total to $85 USD. Bugger that.

      • Tinydeal.com also comes out to a similar price.

Wouldn't mind a set, but I'm not sure I want to pay twice the price of the product in shipping costs. Might wait and see if it pops up elsewhere in the future, possibly through a more local seller.

Check the features and see if you need to pay extra to get the WS-50 over the WS-30.

    • +1

I bought the WS-30 a year ago from this one off deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152233

I have nothing bad to say about either model. Both are 100%.

      • +1

Same. I regret not getting more back then

  • I've got the WS-50. It's a great motivator (or nagger) for me, especially paired with the Withings Pulse. Need to replace batteries once a month. Not looking for accuracy but trends and it works wonderfully. Would recommend it.

One question - Does anyone know about ability to use the fitbit charge in the withings ecosystem, or the withings in the fitbit ecosystem ?
