    The review doesn't sound good:
"blocks my view, doesn't stick to dash, crushes my phone"

Not trying to be a deal-breaker but I have to say I don't recommend this car mount as the locking mechanism always came loose on my unit and the whole thing felt down while I was driving. You don't want this to happen when you are travelling on the freeways.

I have one that looks just like it bought from banggood. I assume it's exactly the same thing and the Cygnett ones are just branded but if not I would expect the Cygnett ones to be better. (Banggood ones are around $3-4 if anyone is interested).

      They work fine for me.

The trick like any other suction cup is to get a nice seal on a clean surface.

I applied mine on a hot day after spraying a bit of glass cleaner solution onto both the suction cup and the glass while both were still wet stuck it on.

It's been on for well over a year without moving or falling.

But another issue is that because the suction cup is somewhat wide yet shallow, it may have problems on more curved windshields too so ymmv on that front.

      • The problem I had with mine is it's not about the clean surface but the spring-mechanism underneath the suction cup is very sensitive to vibration. After a few bumps on the road the spring would turn the suction cup loose therefore it doesn't hold the car mount well anymore especially with the weight of the phone hanging off it. Hope that explains.

        • Yeah I see what you're saying.

Issue didn't happen on mine though so just adding my 2cents. And of course mine wasn't the Cygnett one, but I'm surprised if mine was better as opposed to you getting a bum one.

Or maybe the Cygnett ones were earlier versions, /shrug.

        • I took mine rallying and it only lasted the first corner.
It does work ok on the highway, on a really hot day I think the rubber or the plastic gets a bit loose and doesn't hold much for long.
I've had mine for a while now, it has zip ties holding the clamp shut.

    Gone

  • I got a really good one from cotd for $10+ shipping but I can't find them anywhere, maybe a clearance item?
It's a Garmin one and only just holds iphone6+ if I squeeze it in.
It uses the same suction as the Garmin gps so I can take the phone mount off and put a gps one on. Pretty handy if swapping cars or if someone needs to use my car.
Anyone know where to get these Garmin mounts from?

I have one. Not that great in my opinion.
Difficult to place handset on and melted in the sunlight.

I had one too. It just wasn't good at all.
