  • Makes me wish I had all Apple devices…… lol

    Truely original?

  • Will this last 16.5 times as long as the $1 cable

    • +2

Nah, the only benefit of purchasing this is when a disaster unfortunately happens due to this cable, you have a big name to sue for a lot of money if you are lucky enough to stay alive. :p

      • lol, at least only get your thigh burnt but not anywhere else ;)

I ordered one in the past from Groupon. It does seem to come straight from China but it's still working great for me whereas the $1 ones consistently stop recognising my device a few weeks in.

  • Hmm, it says both "Original" as well as "Official", so hoping that these are both used interchangeably with "Genuine". Have ordered 3x.

    • Groupon confirmation just came through and looks like the cables are coming from "Axis Intersource Limited" who I believe are based out of HK. They better be genuine…

      • well, after reading everyone's comments in here, i will be sure to request a refund from Groupon for false advertising. if not, i'll try and get a refund via paypal (as I paid via paypal). sucks…

  • Apple has a chip they put in their cables to authenticate. This stops the cheapies without the chip from working properly. You hear people complaining about it all the time on Whirlpool. As my other half puts it, Apple is a connector company that produces products as well.

    • Yes but it's only $1 for a new cable every time they block a fake chip. The last this happened was the ios8 release and most of the ones I've purchased (including microusb to lightning adapters) are working fine.

      (iPhone 5 and air 2)

      • Meanwhile you have a whole bunch of cables, you can't use, either lying around the house or you have to throw out. Not the best option environmentally.

  • Slightly digressing, I've heard that people use those shrink tubes to stop the cables from getting damaged, has anybody tried doing that?
I never needed to, but thought it might be use for some here.

    • Is shrink tubing cheaper than a $1 cable?

They are like 127pcs for $4 from eBay. They are for reinforcing those $10 geniune cables.
I've heard people complaining about how $1 ones stop working after certain amount of time, MFI and all that.

I found 1m one for $1 from eBay by just searching heat shrink tube 1m.

    DO NOT BUY
They say they are original but they are definitely not
they drop ship them from a chinese seller, not packaged
I bought 2 last time and they both give you that warning that this cable is not for this device blah blah

    • +3

Groupon! You got some 'splainin to do!

      • +1

I wondered about the "original" label as well. Do they actually mean cables from Apple or just cables that have the "appropriate" authentication in them. (Sounds like these may not even have that).

    • +1

Agreed. I bought a couple from Groupon, thinking I scored a bargain, but it ships without any official Apple packaging - no box, just a coil of wire in plastic sleeve. The plastic on the cable feels hard and stiff, not soft like genuine lightning cable.

  • +2

    Original does not mean Genuine.

  • +1

past behaviour shows these are non genuine. gRoupon appear to be contravening at least s52 of the Trade Practices Act. ie. misleading and deceptive conduct.

    • -1

If the TPA still existed, that is.

  • +1

    Official Apple product

    No, they are not!

"Authorized by a proper authority; authoritative: official permission."

  • +2

    Fake/SPAM

  • +1

    DAMMIT.

  • +2

As others have already remarked, "original" product does not equate to "genuine" product.

  • Is there a good go-to lightning cable that is cheap and gets the job done (without having to worry about whether or not it will be blocked by an update)?

  • +1

I found the genuine belkin lightning cables when on sale at dicksmith are excellent. don't waste your money on these fakies.

  • old thread now but after receiving my (fake) cables, i escalated back to paypal who then escalated back to Groupon. i've managed to receive a full refund and didn't have to pay postage to send the cables back to groupon.
