  • Cheers, bought a pair of their shoes from CoTD before, nice looking and great quality.

Will look into this sale =)

quality of JM depends on what line you buy.

I find crystal sole lasts longer everything else for me has only a 6mth life.

      • I've only had mine for a couple of weeks so will have to see.

I bought the Cyrus from CoTD when it was on special for $80. Not on the JM website so I'm assuming it is an older style. Not too sure what line it was from.

        • I bought the Cyrus from CoTD

          this one?

        • @steff: Oh, it was still on the website… yeah thats the one.

  • i'm currently tossing up buying a pair of RM Williams. I hear they last years. Any people have a view on a pair of RM Williams vs 3 pairs of these?

    • I haven't had RMs but heaps of people I know swear by them. I have had 2 pairs of JMs in the past and both lasted about 10 to 12 months before they were COMPLETELY shagged. On one pair the stitching broke where the leather joins the sole and on the other the rubber heel just got completely worn out.

I then decided to spend 250ish on a pair of Italian made boots with a leather sole (on sale from 350 or so) … Had to spend an extra $50 to get some rubber sole put over the leather else it's ridiculously slippery… And so far I've been wearing them for 3 years solid and I'll probably get 4 years out of them. And they look much much better than a pair of JMs.

I'm a tightarse … But not when it comes to something you have to use every day.
Other people may have different experiences.

Cost wise I have found that when it comes to work shoes there is no savings in buying cheap shoes. Only do it if you like shopping for new ones every year.

      • yep. this will be my first time venturing into the $300+ shoe range so I would def want to get many years out of them!

        Thanks for your view :)

        • When I tried RM's I didn't find them that comfortable, so for dress boots I went with Enoch Taylor T-Boots. Great quality and they have lasted years, comfortable with a good sole. They can be hard to find though and I only found them from a supplier in QLD. Australian brand which I think off-shored to Fiji. Paid $100 from recollection.

I prefer shoes in my current job so find the JM crystal soles last me a year or two so I tend to buy at the sale price. Comfortable and I don't expect them to last too long so happy to spend $60-$90 each time.

        • @cornbeef:
I had a look at the Julius Marlow boots shown but cant seem to see any reference to a Crystal Sole -do you see any with it in the link?

        • @King Tightarse: from what I can see only a few of the boots have the crystal sole The last pair of shoes I bought were taboo and though not crystal sole they are fine.

        • @cornbeef:
          Got it, cheers.
Have the same thing with Julius Marlow boots. I really like them but the soles putt out in less than a year.

          @King Tightarse:
Enter "crystal sole" in the search function on the website to filter by these. You can also check the product images. Many shoes with the crystal sole will have a picture of the tread; if you see a tan section in the tread they have crystal sole.

    • Yep, buy the RMs, they literally last forever. Best shoes money can buy.

    • Hey. I have two pairs of RMW, both are the Craftsman in black and chestnut. Very comfortable boots. I know a person that has had his two pairs for 10 and 15 years and they look great!

      • My Mum has some hand made ones from the 1960's - still perfect.
