is this essentially just spending $600 on hotels with no webjet fee?

    • yep - no webjet fees on hotels

  • Choice Magazine just came out and mentioned why it is mostly not a good idea to go with 3rd party sites and mentioned Webjet specifically.

Let's add some analysis to this debate you have created.
I will use the article JJlikes2eat has mentioned (from choice) which should cover the theory anna10 has also suggested.

I will extract the two references to Webjet within the article:

"To find out if third-party sites will give you a better deal, we compared the prices of eight flights booked direct through the airline, with those on a range of third-party sites that were popular in search results for cheap flights. We checked prices on Zuji, Wotif, eDreams, BYOjet, Bestjet, Helloworld, STATravel, Last minute, Expedia, Webjet, Flight Centre and travel.com.au.

        What we found:

Flights were often available for less, or at least the same price, directly through the airline, without the hassle of a third party.
When flights were cheaper through a third party, the price savings were often minimal. However, there were two instances where prices were more than $100 lower.
Some sites search more airlines than others, so you may or may not be shown the cheapest airline flying that route, depending on the site you use."

        • We can see that Choice has outlined that flights are usually cheaper than buying through a 3rd party. This article and analysis done by Choice has nothing to do with Hotels that are booked via Webjet. FWIW I wouldn't ever book a flight through Webjet due to the booking fees and I agree with the information provided above.

This information does NOT detract from the deal being offered here ($75 off $600 spend) on Hotels.

        The next extract:

Point 2 "Our spot check found that the popular booking site Webjet was consistently more expensive than booking directly due to booking fees"

        • As mentioned above, I agree with this statement and FLIGHTS are usually cheaper to book direct with the airline. This deal relates to HOTELS only and there are no fees associated with booking any hotel on the Webjet site.

I will add that I have booked many hotels through third party sites which are mentioned in this article you have provided above. They include Expedia, Booking, Zuji and Webjet. Not once have I had an issue with booking a Hotel via any of these sites. As always, do your due diligence before purchasing your accommodation and handing over your coin.

        Enjoy the savings

        • Agree. I found that most of the time the third party sites give you a better deal than booking direct from the hotels especially with the discount codes.

However, always do your homework and check on the different sites to see which one gives you the best deal before you hand over your hard-earned money.

  • "Our spot check found that the popular booking site Webjet was consistently more expensive than booking directly due to booking fees". Maybe or may not be the same for hotels, just do as the article says and see if it is cheaper direct.

    • Only applies to flights - yes they have a booking fee for flights and the reason I don't use them for flights.
Hotels is another story, you can compare some of their prices to the prices on trivago and they're substantially cheaper when I searched today.
