$60 membership doesn't make it such a good deal.

      This again…?

Oh well, I'm a happy member and so are the people that line up to join.

You don't join just to buy one thing, hope that explains what Costco does to you… of course, you could return the membership for full refund after this if you wanted to!

      • You can even use the membership for 11 months and then ask for a refund. No questions asked.

Sorry… dupe of m82's comment. Mobile app doesn't show replies! :)

Priced to beat Harvey Norman who have it for $74 until Sunday (no membership required). White only it seems.
Save extra $5 with welcome email.

    • I did the signup welcome email and it gave me $25 off. Catch is you have to spend over $150

I bought 2 of them yesterday at Costco for $94.99 each.. so now taking them back tomorrow and buying them again at the current price.
(unless they can see logic and just credit my account).
.. if you buy 2 and group them as left and right surround.. then you are pretty close to your $150.

btw.. with new version of the Samsung Wireless Multroom app that has been released.. you do not need the hub to group multiple speakers… which is not what it says in the speaker user guide.

        • can you still play from both speakers simultaneously if you don't use the multiroom hub? I have an M5 and bought the M7 from HN's deal yesterday but thinking that I needed the hub, purchased it separately at TGG's current offer for $59. if its really not needed then I might as well refund it.

@jemichae: you don't need to buy again. If you have the receipt Or just show your membership card to the front desk, they will give you a refund amount on the difference. I've done it with experience before when bought a TV.

Short answer - Yes… you can play simultaneously… group, ungoup, surround them into left and right… everything.
I did exactly the same… and currently waiting for the hub to arrive from TGG's Rockingham (which was the only one with stock online apparently).

Long answer - I spoke to the Samsung rep in JB.. and he was the one that told me that the new version of the app that is out, means that you don't need the hub anymore to group your speakers for simultaneous sound.
He did say that the only thing that the hub now does is to remove some of the speaker bandwidth use from the network. Without it, each speaker is using the same amount of bandwidth each… with it, the hub take the data and resends it on its own network.. removing it from your wireless network.
Apparently (according to him) although sound bandwidth usage is relatively low, it all adds up.. especially if you are streaming HD video over the same wireless network. (I've split my video and audio over the two 2.4 and 5.0 networks that the router provides, and having no issues).

I have my speakers set up with no hub.. and working great as left and right surround for the TV (multi link from my Samsung TV).. and also just as a 'group' for playing music from other sources. Hope that helps.

        • @jemichae: awesome mate, thanks heaps for this. I will probably request a refund on the hub then.

Great speakers but if you're willing to fork out the extra money, go for the M7's that are currently on sale at Harvey Norman for $199. They are a very nice step up.

    • main differences between m3 and m7?

      • +1

you get larger mid range and subwoofer drivers and you also get a separate tweeter driver on the M7. M7's sound quality apparently ups the SONOS play3 albeit possibly not as good as the play5.

      • +1

As Blahoz said. Larger drivers. The M7 gives a massive range too depending on your room. If you're in a small room then it's not going to be a major benefit but if you want to use the speaker as a sound bar, or to fill a large room then the M7 over the M3 is day and night. The M7 isn't quite as good as the SONOS play5 but considering the price, it's well worth it. The only real issue with the M7 is that the base distorts at very high volumes.
