Can a Franchisee Add Terms and Conditions Not Set by the HQ?

Is a franchisee able to add on terms and conditions not set by the headquarters?

Like for example, in the recent Godfrey's $10 voucher, people were told by the employees that they had to purchase a vacuum, or it was valid with full-priced items. Even though it does not state this at all on the terms and conditions, and other stores allow it on any purchases.

Thanks.

It stated that it was valid at participating stores, so I guess they can do whatever they like with it.

    • I haven't followed it, but surely you are either participating or not participating, not kind a sorta if we feel like it. But this happens a lot, such as OfficeWorks price beat guarantee. It seems to be at the whim of the manager on duty at the time.

You can kind of understand a store manager not wanting someone to walk in of the street and walk out with some free merchandise without paying a cent.

        • Of course and that's why head office should structure offers in a way that they consider "professionals" trying to "exploit" the voucher or franchisees shouldn't participate.

Though I'm sure there's a fair bit of pressure on them to participate.

Big corporate stores like OfficeWorks bring it on themselves and their shareholders if they stuff up.

Mum and Dad who buy a franchise; I have much more sympathy for, even though my superannuation suffers (ever so slightly) when big stores stuff up.
