Looking for Video Camera - under $1000 Mark (See Desc)

Hi All,

So my Mother is a dance teacher and is having a dance concert soon which will be in a theatre with quite low light. There will be lights on stage but i would still consider the environment as "Low Light"

Basically all I need is a Video Camera that meets everything I have listed below:

Good in low light (Not too Grainy) Im guessing something with a larger sensor?
Sharp, clear, natural colours.
Continuous video recording (Maybe 50 minutes as I can stop recording at intermission and change the battery/SD etc etc)
1080p 24/30 fps? Maybe even 60fps.
Audio isnt an issue as ill be placing music over the top of the video.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know :)

Thanks!

According to a recent review you might be looking at a Panasonic HC-V770.

I'd suggest going a different route and buying a dSLR that does video and hiring a good, fast lens for the events. Might cost you $60-100 for a 1 day hire depending on your choice. If its a regular thing, perhaps it's better to try a hire once and then look to buy if it suits.

If you are really on a budget but can stick the tripod wherever you like, a Canon 50mm f1.8 is only about $120 and gives a great image (but to frame you'll need to move the tripod - it's not a zoom lens)

if it's only for one concert try looking to just rent one.
contact a local camera club and see what they think, they may also have contact about hiring.

  • Sony a5100 has an aps-c sensor, same size as dslr (but not full frame) it is one of the lowest noise sensors and great in low light. Xavc-s means very high quality hd video. Add a samyang 85mm f1.2 lense and you have a video camera that will shoot in very low light with a narrow depth of field to accentuate the subject.
