    • Windows 10 feels very unfinished.
I know because I'm running it on my PC and MacBook Pro.

      • What on earth do you want? A paperclip helper?

  • +9

I'd rather get a Macbook Pro for a bit extra…This thing is horrendous as soon as you need to connect something to it.

    • Mbp doesnt have some of these compromises, but its not just apple the new lenovo yoga 3 pro has the same 5 watt wet tissue paper processor. the non pro yoga 3 is faster.

    • +1

Yep underpowered as hell and lack of ports. A typical first generation apple product. Wait for the refined second generation or buy the slightly heavier and much better in every aspect Macbook Pro. Goodguys deal was cheaper earlier in the year too.

  • +2

Love the Pro and Air, but I really couldn't find anything to like about this model. Especially the keyboard, big fat square keys :(
Not for me I guess, but some people will love it.

  • Why keep giving OW business? Entertainment book members can purchase DJ vouchers with 10% discount. Works out cheaper than OW price beat.

    • can you buy 1600 worth of gift cards though (several $500 and $100) to then all use in one transaction?

  • +7

At $1600 this is still a very expensive laptop - wait for the Gen 2 of this kind if you're sold on it. One USB connector is simply not enough considering Apple sell the adapter to bring back the extra ports they left out. The Macbook Air or Pro is a much better option; the 12" model is both slower and has less battery life than either model.

If you're looking for a Windows laptop check the XPS 13 - considerably better bang for your buck.

    • Way better, 13inch screen in a 11inch body, beautiful

New xps 13 is great looking computer

      • XPS 13 is actually my top pick for ultrabooks this year. It's absolutely fantastic. No more expensive than a shitbook pro and you get better specs.

        • mine too.

if it comes with slightly better iGPU like in Intel® Core™ i7-5557U Processor with Intel® Iris™ Graphics 6100 i would buy it straight away

Bummer is that all recent i7 Macbooks using this integrated GPU :)

        • +2

          "Shitbook pro"…really?

        • -1

          @spaghettiman:
          Yes, dad.

  • Since when Apple start to offer 12 inch macbook?

    • +2

since they found out "more products - more profit formula"

      It's just a business

  • +6

If you need min 8GB ram + 256GB hard drive then all 3 MacBooks are around about the same price, so really comes down your use case for which one works best for you. If you're coming from a laptop with a good screen, you're definitely going to notice the terrible MBA screen which could be a deal breaker. I also think if you regularly (at least once a week) need your ports like ethernet, display and whatnot, the compromise of the rMB is probably not worth it and best to stick with the rMBP. For me personally, I value a good display and portability and rarely use any ports bar power, with the exception of backing up every once in a while, so I've enjoyed it immensely over the past few months. Seems to be popular with students as I've seen quite a few of these at my uni this semester.

OVERPRICED and I'm an Apple User, should be <$1000 imo

    • now you'll get slammed with -votes as I did for 999

anyway you got my + for compensation :)

forgot to mention I'm Apple user too

      • +1

I would rather a negative vote telling people how I feel than getting 100's of positive votes for being FAKE

Same goes for the Whirlpool Forums where my aura is always "Low", because I tell people what they don't want to hear

Sometimes I take it too far, but 90% of the time I'm just being honest

I would buy this laptop to travel with if it was <$1000

Until then I will just laugh at the price/apple tax

        • +1

Gotta love the "aura" WP users get branded with.

          Popularity contest, yet worse.

  • I have a 2011 MBA which is flawless and fantastic, I was thinking of churning and passing this unit to one of my kids who needs a replacement on a 2009 macbook but I couldn't go near a uniport device, who wants to fork out hundreds on extra port adaptors?
Apple are innovative in many ways but their ecosystems are becoming tired…OSX10 works well but looks dated, IOS 8 needs a serious refresh, maybe IOS 9 will be better.
My iPad gathers dust while my android tablet gives me the flexibility I need.
I don't see this latest macbook as being a great unit, just having 2 usb ports on my macbook is already frustrating.

    • Frustrating, but flawless?

  • Even if you don't have entertainment book, you still save money getting the membership since the book is only $70 (Sydney) and you get 10%off ($161) so you save $90ish and get a free entertainment vouchers

  • What's the screen resolution?

  • Option A: I could get this for $1330 (current price -10% ent book discount -10% TRS (going overseas).

Option B: Or pay same price $1330 for Macbook Air, 13" with 8Gb of ram. 128Gb though. (Education discount)

I honestly can't decide!! Help?? I don't need heaps of storage so 128gb would be fine. Also don't use ports much. No major graphics needs just browsing the net. Option B is best right??

    • +1

I would choose the MBA purely for the beefier CPU - it will hold up longer.

    • crap feedback on the 12" keyboard. I have a MBA 13", its great but only because i got it on the cheap. 1.3k is pricey for it.

    • +1

I'd choose MacBook 12" for the better display, Force Touch trackpad, and lighter in weight.

    • +1

Instead of Option B, can you pay a bit more to get the MacBook Pro 13' retina?

    • i will WAIT!

if you dont care retina, go for air. my gf has an air 11. it is just perfect for everyday use.
if you do want retina, and dont want to be ripped-off, WAIT for next generation of air.
if you want retina, and dont care about price, you can choose option b.
if you do want retina, and dont mind the thickness and weight, mbp13 (note that mbp13 is as thick as 15. 13 looks bulky while 15 looks splendid. i have a 15)
if you do want retina, and do mind the thickness and heavy weight, the only option is b.

if you dont want to wait for next generation air………you can do what i did: buy an xps 13!!!!!!!!(mine is top spec, the battery life is not as great as the xps 13 with only fhd though)

    • Don't know if it works here in Australia or not but when I bought my iMac using the education discount I got Apple Care for free, can't remember if I had to apply for it though or if it came automatically

  • +3

I have Entertainment Book and I'm not interested in this deal, so maybe I can help you guys buying the DJ gift card :) PM me if you need it.

  • Similar specs to my phone giggle

  • tried one of these out in the apple store, must admit coming from a 13inch MBA, the screen felt noticeably smaller

if you're a new user, it should be fine I reckon

  • The unfortunate thing with Macs is you don't get time to make a cup of coffee while waiting for programs to load.
If this is important to you, buy a Windows laptop

    • +2

      Blind drivel

    • Exactly!! I'll never forgot the first time I booted up and shut down my first Mac with SSD….mind = blown! :)

  • -3

Has Microsoft managed to reduce the Windows Update download & install times to under half a day yet?

    • +1

Buy a SSD and change your ISP ASAP

      • -3

So quarter of a day then. Baby steps, baby steps…

  • How fast is a Core M?

It sounds like a budget CPU from the Core 2 series.

Can you have dual OS on this Windows + OSX?

I saw the new ones on display at HN where all you had to do was swipe the touchpad to switch between Windows 7 and OSX.

    • It's a low power CPU designed to be power efficient and passively cooled, it's fast enough to do anything you'd want to do on a tablet or phone, don't expect to be able to play games or render the next Avatar though.

You can always install Windows on Macs with Bootcamp, but you shouldn't be able to run them both at the same time unless you're using something like Parallels which is paid software. What you saw at HN should not be possible, maybe you made a mistake.

Remember a great feature of OS X/iOS is the continuity feature to answer & make phone calls from your Mac
Does anyone know if it was included with Windows 7 Service Pack 4 (aka Windows 10)?

  • +6

Why does the Windows vs Mac comments always appear in Mac discount posts but no one ever starts pushing macs in Windows laptop discount posts? LOL.

This machine is great for all the basic day-to-day tasks that 80% of people undertake in…and like the MBA of 2008 this will give Dell and Lenovo etc even more design 'inspiration'…someone needs to show the industry the way :)

    • -1

      Cognitive dissonance

    • +4

      Inferiority complex of windows users.
Disclaimer: don't even own a MacBook. Just find all this apple hate in this deal ridiculous.

      • +3

The windows hate/apple fanbois is/are just as bad though. I don't get why people get so passionate. Use the one you want to use.

        • +1

Windows/Android/Apple users are basically sports fans at this point, it doesn't matter at all what is actually happening in reality, everyone else sucks and they are the best.

  • I sold a Early 2013 15" MBPr for the 1.2/512. Also sold my iPad Air 2. Great keyboard/trackpad, screen, excellent speakers, doesn't get hot, no fan noise, much easier to port around house and work. Only use the port for backup and iPhone. This truly is a laptop for the lap. Never understand why people want a laptop with wires hanging out everywhere. This is a pick up and go machine.

    • +1

Never understand why people want a laptop with wires hanging out everywhere.

Isn't that exactly the problem with this machine having only one port?
      With the adaptor hanging around

      • The idea is you use wireless technologies like Wifi and Bluetooth. Then you can save mass by not having to jam in more ports.

        • Exactly, i have wireless printer, bluetooth headphones, iPhone syncs wireless. I use port for charging and backup only.

      • No, i use the adapter and away in the draw it goes. I have used it maybe 6 times in over 2 months. If you want more ports and wires hanging out of your laptop don't buy it, simple.

  • +6

What I always find amusing is the people first calling others sheep, just before pointing out that their own chosen OS has a market share of 85% or so, which I guess makes them edgy leaders, not followers??

The other thing I wonder is why anyone feels the need to spend time posting negative comments (about the product, not the bargain) for an Apple-focused bargain in which they are not interested?

I drink primarily red wine, but I don't seek out the bargains on white wine and spend my time "explaining" to them why white wine is crap and they should buy red.

    • +1

The sheep are apparently the Windows users not the Mac users…

    • Because its OzBargain not OzShafted. The question for your analogy is do you drink grange and how do you justify that while people starve?

(ok maybe that was bit mean but only slightly)

  • People are still happy to pay this much for a laptop these days?

    • it's Apple, same as people who are happy to pay for LV, Gucci, etc as long as those things make them feel happy and they can afford them then why not :)?

      • Yes, exactly my point. Any logically thinking person should reprioritise and put that money aside for something actually important.

If Macs actually allowed people to work faster or do their job better or upgrade less often (and therefore have a similar TCO) than I would say fine (and in some cases this would be true of course) but in general anyone who knows how to do exactly the same thing on a PC would be doing just fine at half the price. They could take a holiday, give to charity, or throw a party with the extra cash and that should make them feel even better than just having the Mac. Studies have shown that people who buy things to make them feel better overestimate how much better they will and for how long that feeling lasts. A good read that's relevant to this is Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely

        • "upgrade less often"..

I typed this from my 2010 Macbook. I've never had any laptop last me this long.

        • @jackary: I have a 2005 dell inspiron. I put an sd in it granted and run Ubuntu, and replaced the battery a couple of years ago. It's not a special case, although I use it less now with smart phones and tablets around. I have nothing against the Mac hardware besides the fact that connectors/adapters and the units themselves cost lots and aren't easy to repair.

  • I ended up changing my mind and ordering the space grey MacBook. Has anybody who ordered one for delivery received it yet? My completed order is still sitting sitting there with the status of "order in progress"…

    • better ring them, me and my friends received ours just few days after for delivery

      • Cheers, I'm chasing it up with them now.
