Gator HD Dash Cam & Reversing Camera Kit $98.99 for Club+ Members @ Supercheap Auto

50

Doesn't sound bad for both a (non HD) dash cam and reversing camera kit, with local warranty. One possible configuration would be to use the included dash cam as a rear facing camera and have your usual one (or higher specced one that you will no doubt soon buy, because ozbargain) up the front.

Similar to the last deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205224 , perhaps those who purchased it last time around can give some feedback?

  • Didn't think it was of any relevance, but just in case - the recommended rubbish price for this, is $249.00

  • The wife keeps reversing into inanimate objects and blaming them, will this reduce the number of bumps the car gets?

    • +6

Probably not but if you put a recording camera at the back at least she'll be able to prove that the bollard jumped out without warning

Better off with parking sensors. A reversing camera only helps avoid things if reversing straight.

      • Thanks

      • Parking sensors are good but can be confusing when reversing near a gate. It can give you feedback without knowing if it is just the gate or something else. The best setup is to have both as the sensors will alert you to check the camera.

Also this camera gives you a pretty wide angle shot of everything.

        • Think most of you guys would know but just in case -
many reverse sensors do not detect pole shape object - ie you may see a big dent at the back of car which have sensors.

Learnt and tested in defensive driving course.

      • No but setup a youtube channel and post up all the hilarious parking incidents, if it is funny enough you'll be buying a new car with the proceeds!

No, but it will give you hilarious footage of her reversing ability that you can load to YouTube and then use the money from the hits you get to fix the car. More hits if you speed up the footage and add Yakety Sax in the background.

I got this camera in the last special. I was mostly after a reversing camera so the dash cam was just an added bonus, 720p is ok, not terribly great in the dark. It was relatively easy to install and the screen fits firmly on the factory rear vision mirror.

Screen can also display output from dashcam which it does for 5 seconds when it first turns on (have my one switched with accessories) just so you know it's working. I don't think the screen will accept input from any other cameras without some modification as it uses a special plug that I have not seen before.

The reversing camera gets power from reversing light, when the screen detects signal it switches on and displays the reversing camera input.

If you don't have a reversing camera and have kids then don't hesitate and just get one!

  • Do i need technician to install this thing, guys?
Im really new at this, thank you in advance.

    • Depends on the car and how confident you are at wiring and removing the car trim. If you have never installed a car radio, speakers, amplifier etc then I would say yes, you do need a technician. A friend with a bit of knowledge would also be ok and probably only cost a slab.

Power must be wired to it (it's not plug and play) and video cable must be ran all the way to the rear.

Disclaimer: I'm not liable for any stuff ups!

      • thank you, man ^^

  • Is the quality of the screen any good, can you see clearly?

    • It's not iPhone quality but it's better than some tablets I have used in the past. Easily make out objects. A little bit hard to see in full sun but just like any lcd screen I guess.

Please note that it does not record the reversing camera.

      • I might go and check it out, if I'm not a member - can i just join on the spot and get it at that price?
