It's a step in the right direction, and not Supercheap's fault but 720p isn't really cutting it for a modern dash cam. Unfortunately 1080p dual cams still cost a lot more ($300-500 for decent ones), 720p is better than nothing but just not good enough today IMO.

Alternatively, 2 x G1W-CB for ~$110 would be superior quality but more hassle.

Youd also need to get TA to get you another bargain on memory cards for 1080p filming.

      • True, though despite people saying you need 64/128GB I reckon 32GB is fine (and I have plenty of those from previous TA deals) ;)

        32GB = ~8 hours 1080p recording.

        • Do people usually wipe the memory daily/overwrite the memory whenever its full?

        • @ATangk:

Dash cameras will usually record in ~5 minute blocks (or have user control over the block time) and overwrite the least current block.

They usually will also lock a block if a bump occurs (if it has an accelerometer), so that it can not be over written, and may also have a button on the device that a user can press to manually lock the last block.

        • Just to pee on your parade a little, you may find your approx. number a bit off…….
32GB storage is actually 32,000MB/1024 = 31.25GB, after formatting with FAT32 this becomes about 29.7GB.
I also think you'd find that 1080p @ 30fps with audio takes a fair bit more than 4GB/hr
But hey, for most people 4hrs+ is plenty
For the record I use those settings and have 32GB cards for my dashcam, so not saying people need to have bigger, just making sure no false impressions being had.

        • @rayski57:

No peeing necessary, I had a malfunction with my maths. I was mixing up 64GB with 32GB. Right you are.

    • I find 720p more than enough. It's very clear on a 32" tv- I'm assuming most people will only be viewing dash cam videos on laptops or monitors not bigger than 23". I'd be more interested in higher frame rates.

        por que no los dos

    • I think there may be some mis-understanding here (maybe it's me reading too much into your comment about dual cams).
This is a mirror mount LCD monitor, a reversing camera and seperate a dashcam, Gator (or who ever) have put together a 3 part system from different sources. I think after reading the Gator manual you'll find as I did - there's no recording of the rear camera signal, it's just being used as a common monitor

Ah right you are again. I jumped to a quick assumption, the wrong one in this case.

0 from 2. I'll go to bed before it reaches 3.

        • Just having a bad night…it's easy to correct others slips, harder not to make your own when creating something from scratch

  • I got one of these when on special:
