Oh nice! and look at the comments, I see many people getting excite!

    • +5

if an EV was 25k drive away? would people still buy petrol cars for 25k?

      • +1

MG4 was 31k D/A for a month last year! Not far off..

        • +1

You can purchase 2-year-old GWM Oras for less than $23K DA now

          • @SupeNintendoChalmers: I just checked Carsales and the cheapest I could see was 28k, or 33k in WA where I am

            • +1

@joelj: mate, you gotta twist their arm. They're buying these cars for around $17K wholesale. For context, I purchased mine from QLD. They were selling for $28+ORC, I offered them $24K DA and they accepted.

              • +1

@SupeNintendoChalmers: So what MY was your Ora?

How do you know they get it wholesale for $17k?

How did you twist their arm?

Let us know of your wisdom

                • +1

@freeb1e4me: I have an acquaintance who is a wholesaler, and 17 is the number that is brought up a lot for the Ora.

As for wisdom, nothing really special about it. I saw the car, knew the rough wholesale price and threw my offer, telling the dealer that I'll take the car off their hands within 48 hours. Remember that moving stock quickly is the name of the game in car sales, they know that EVS are generally harder to move, so even if their margin is $3000 that's still better than the risk of losing more money and the physical space of being able to get a more desirable vehicle in their lot.

        • The 2023 model were runout for $26,990 a year or so ago

Literally would’ve had zero depreciation over that period once bought

      • +2

Nay, but they would probably buy a $100k Diesel Prado :)

        • +1

          or a ford ranger :D

    1.5l motor with CVT

lol, imagine getting excited for that POWER

    • -4

Engine displacement is no indicator of power, Formula One Engines have 1.6L displacement with a power output of 700kw+

      • +12

But they aren't naturally aspirated and attached to a CVT.

You can't fairly compare it to a V6 turbo hybrid with straight cut 8 speed sequential carbon fiber encased transmission.

        • +28

For what it's worth CVT in F1 was banned in 1994 for being too fast.

        • +19

The only reason it isn’t mated to a CVT is because they banned it. CVT allows engines to be in their optimal power band almost all the time, if developed properly it will be faster than regular gearboxes.

(No, this isn’t in defense of the chinese POS. I’ve driven one and I don’t ever want to again)

      • +38

Bringing up Formula One engines in a thread about a Chinese economy piece of shit is crazy.

        • +12

Im defending lower displacement engines not poorly made vehicles.

          • +3

@Chizzle: Yeah you had an interesting point but the internet is cuckville and gets pissy at anything.

        • +1

It’s Copium for the people who only catch the bus

      • -1

LOL at using f1 as an example when the vehicle in quesion is chinese trash.

        • +10

China manufactures parts for F1 use, does that make them trash too?

China has some of the best manufacturing capabilities in the world - but when you ask for cheap shit you get cheap shit

      • When associated with 23k drive away, you know it has no power

        • Yes but we have two units of measurement for power, Kilowatts and Horsepower

Engine displacement is not a measurement or indicator of power, if this was a 3.5L V6 it could still output less than 100kw

          • @Chizzle: I disagree find me a motor same generations/ age where the smaller motor has more kilowatt…..the only thing that makes a difference is the turbo they pop on rule of thumb used to be adding a turbo equated to multiplying displacement by 1.5. Engine displacement is definitely a measure of power… Please find me 3.5 L V6 that outputs less than 100kw of power in 2020

      • -2

1.6L V6 with a Turbo- Hybrid System worth approximately $15 Million AUD. - FITFY.

Comparing to a Naturally Aspirated 1.5L CVT 4 Cylinder SUV worth $23k is wild.

        • Yes, so hopefully you learned, that the displacement of the engine has nothing to do with power output, and that we have units like Watts and Horsepower for these things

          • @Chizzle: Ah - displacement, cylinders, a TURBO and state of the art energy recovery power system have everything to do with the numbers you're quoting.
The most powerful NA 1.5L motors produced have maxed out at between 135-150kw. There are limits we're talking about here.

Forced induction and a battery motor increase power output so purposely omitting that context to aid your argument is just plain silly.

    • My skoda with a 1.3l automatic is quicker off the mark than the old 6 cylinder, 3.5L Maxima we had lol

      • +3

That sounds like the maxima is limited in another way.
Because a 4l v6 falcon will smoke both of these.

        • Too many variables. Gearing, weight for example.

          • +1

@ilikeit: These are most likely the reason.

But it is funny when I say the specs to any bloke who gets in the skoda. They assume it will not move at all. But it is pretty quick for what it is.

No, I am not saying this is a race car by any stretch of the imagination

        • +3

          Straight 6

          • +1

@vinnycol: Damn straight. V6 Falcons are about as rare as a helpful comment from jv.

        • V6 Falcon? Hahahahaha!

        • Would love to see this V6 falcon.

    • +1

my daily is 1.5l with cvt and isn't a race car but it's no slouch either

        • Most your new Bimmers coue out of China!

    • +8

Indeed. calling it “excite” should be reported to the ACCC.

      • +1

81kW haha - the last non-hybrid Corolla (2024 model) with a very similar weight (approx 5% heavier) can output 126kW.

E.g. power to weight ratio of your basic Corolla is 48% better than this POS.

    • +1

you are correct though there is f$%k all power in this car but people don't like hearing the truth

      • +1

It doesn’t really matter if the buyer considers it purely a utility, like buying a toaster or a kettle.

    • Wtf are you talking about? Who cares about power at these prices?

    • +1

Damn, for me it was between the MG ZS or the Porsche 911 GT3. I think you have me convicted to get the Porsche instead! Thanks champ.

  • +11

Why is it called Excite when it has a 1.5l with a CVT? should be called a MG Dull, is it the white colour that makes it excite?

    • +12

They seem to have the names backwards - the next model up is the 'Essence' which would make more sense for a basic model.

    • +19

Implying that most people get excited about how much power their car produces these days. Most couldn't tell you what power their car produces or what wheels are being driven.

      • +12

The only thing that matters is how many inches of touchscreen you have, very excite.

        • +4

          Fixed

    • False advertising

      • +2

        To the ACCC!!

    • +12

I'm excited about that price, and the fact it's normalising vehicle sales after Covid.

      • +2

If you take into consideration inflation, cars have never been this cheap.

          • +1

@alexdagr8: Thats why a used car market exists. A new car is a luxury.

          • +5

@alexdagr8: Did he? I don't think anyone promised that.

          • +4

@alexdagr8: I write to Chairman and Almighty Supreme Leader Albo.

The Australian people would like to inform you of your Supreme authority over the populous. Please remove the HoRs, the senate, the courts, and any other bureaucracy or government oversight, preferably by firing squad.

The people yearn for their Supreme Leader, they yearn for a Dictator!

    • +1

      excitement for the price

    • +1

The ZST Excite with the 1.3L turbo is actually a decent engine, they messed up with the naming calling the ZS with 1.5 NA an Excite also.

      • How about the 1.5 turbo they have now?

        • +1

I haven't driven one yet unfortunately. I've done 30,000km in the 1.3t Excite which has a regular auto and it's been faultless. My last brand new car was a VE SS Redline with 6L engine, and while it's fun giving it a squirt merging on the freeway it's too easy to rack up fines these days. So even though it's a big step down in power i enjoy driving the MG and dont find it underpowered.

The 1.5T is only about 10kw more but i think 50nm torque and uses less fuel. So i think it will be popular.

  • +4

Soon EVs will be cheaper than iphones

    • +35

The rate at which iphones/flagship phones are increasing in price I think you are right.

    • +12

Neither of these are EVs, they all have ICE engines in some form.

      • +11

Correct, one of them is a phone.

      • -2

        I never said they were

        • +1

Well now you know. Consider yourself duly informed.

        • +5

Kinda random statement then. What do EV's or iPhones have to do with this 'bargain'?

    • +8

      This is a petrol car.

        • Careful mate, you'll make heads explode quicker than a Note 7.

          • @Captain Yobbo: Its true though. If people cannot accept science and reality, so be it.

            • +1

@easternculture: I’m sure they do. They just pretend otherwise.

              • -1

@entropysbane: Its both hilarious and pathetic that people neg comments reflecting reality. Just tells you alot about society.

                • +2

@easternculture: Gender is a social, not biological phenomenon. (You may be confusing it with sex. Some quick online research will begin to explain. 👍)

                  • -5

@fantombloo: Gender is either male or female.
                    Male had a penis/prostate. Female has a vagina/ovaries.
Since the begining of time, this has been the social norm.
If you think you are another gender, you have a psycological condition likely bipolar or gender dysphoria (the distress a person experiences due to inconsistency between their gender identity—their personal sense of their own gender—and their sex assigned at birth) and thus should be medically treated by a psyciatrist accordingly.

Dressing up as opposite gender, taking hormones or blockers, or chopping of sex organs (genital mutilation) isnt going to fix you. Just makes you psycological condition worse

                    • -1

                      @easternculture:

Since the begining of time, this has been the social norm.

                      So was slavery.
Norms are descriptive, not necessarily prescriptive.

                      • +1

@fantombloo: The thing with slavery, it was not voluntary but forced, nor was it a psycological illness.
People didnt just come out of a closet and say " you know what, i identify as a slave and i am proud about it" and then wave a coloured flag to affirm their preference.

This new gender slogan is my body my choice. They are literally affirming that they voluntarily made that choice, not by force.

                        So does not compare.

Reinventing the society so a small minority group fit in is obsurd . If people started a new movement and identified as animals should we change the social norms so that they can fit in?

                        • +3

@easternculture: Imagine identifying as a prostitute and because you are at a heightened risk of sexual violence we put a brothel on every corner so you can be safer.
Ridiculous that Medicare subsides the trans community.

                          • @alexdagr8:

                            Imagine identifying as a prostitute

You can work as a sex worker but you can’t identify as a prostitute

                            • @freeb1e4me: Call yourself whatever you want, you’re still more likely to contract an STI and experience sexual violence through “a choice”.

                              • @alexdagr8:

you’re still more likely to contract an STI and experience sexual violence through “a choice”.

                                How does that affect you?

                          • @alexdagr8: They said: The sky will not fall down but we got the housing crisis we had to have!

                  • +2

@fantombloo: I’m yet to find in biology something that “identifies” as a different gender.
I’ve seen dogs hump peoples legs… but I don’t think that counts..
“I think, therefore I am” does not add weight to the argument…

                • +2

@easternculture: I think people don’t want to read people’s thinly veiled political opinions in a thread about a car bargain

                  • @garygaz: Agree, probably not. Just trying to educate @fantombloo since he is trying to reinvent society
