LEGO is expensive. Last Christmas I bought a 375 piece set of 'LEGO compatible' police themed blocks for $10 from Coles. The pieces are almost indistinguishable from real LEGO.
LEGO does however have the advantage of branding and plastic molding quality unsurpassed in children's toys. Still, looking at the $263 price tag I imagine at least $50 is going straight to News Corp.
That's why there is a lego black market. It pops up in the news every now and then.

Looked but Target online is $300 and big is $298

I'm 36, I was really into lego when I was a child and was a bit disappointed when I got a bit old for it in school. A few years back my wife surprised me with a star wars set and I decided to collect a couple more sets over the years.
I now have almost enough original trilogy sets to relive the trilogy in lego form with only a few key sets to go. For me, making lego is a good zone out time to keep my mind of the tough days at work etc and having a set of terrific scale models of my favourite star wars scenes also adds the value for me.
I had lego as a kid too, and my son is nearly 3 and just starting to have bit of fun with it. I did prefer to just make up random stuff with blocks though rather than following a set of rigid instructions (Im perhaps still like that with some things I do in life, even following a recipe can make my mind tie itself up in knots sometimes). Whereas I can pull things apart and fix them with no issue usually.
You guys would probably like the latest weekly Humble Bundle, it has a game called StarMade (early access) which seems to be a bit like a cross between lego and minecraft but in space.
