Dillenger have been around for quite a while selling electric bikes and upgrade kits. Worth a look if you're in the market.

Total Weight - No Battery 18.8kg
    Battery Weight 9.2kg
    Total Weight 28kg

    Serious?

Yeah the old SLA style batteries are heavy - but reliable. You won't be taking this sucker up the Alpe d'Huez!

No deal for me, not with that awful motor…. top it off with a 2 chain system Well that's just the icing on the cake really.

The third image looks like the aftermath of a horrible bike accident

I found some pretty nasty reviews online for this bike: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/dillenger-cheetah-folding-…

Most of the complaints cover damaged goods during delivery, extremely heavy, pedaling doesn't move the bike much, bad customer service, and it has about 5cm of clearance so try to avoid bumps!

Thanks, saved me from a purchase that i reckon would've been a huge mistake. Interesting to see the sockpuppet in this thread. I feel there's a bit of that going on in the product reviews as well.

Wouldn't touch SLA batteries with a barge poll.

I was actually looking at their old kickstarter for a bluetooth conversion kit: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1182676007/uncomprimisi… but after that, I started researching more.

I learnt about mid-drive kits, especially the Bafang, from the Endless Sphere forum.

I ended up with the Bafang BBS01 kit and with some help, installed it on my Giant hybrid and it is great, I have nearly done 1000km around Melbourne, in winter.

The price has gone up as the dollar has gone down, and the discount code is not worth as much (THESPHERE) but it is still better than the dillenger.

Looks great, but that's 350W, so it isn't road legal in Australia.

      • +2

Meh - some states are 250, others 300W, there seems to be some talk of adopting 350W. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it 350W is still pretty wussy.

If you have an accident on the road with an unregistered vehicle, you'll have a huge and expensive legal battle.

I'm pretty sure this is similar money to what they asked for on kickstarter early this year/late last year.
I was tempted to buy at the time, but 28kgs is hugely heavy, which is what you'll be pushing when the battery runs out…
    YMMV

  • Considerably more expensive, but arguably far better quality and value … and it's an Australian campaign:
