Good hard drive for reasonable price?

Hello Ozbargainers!

I'm looking for 1TB or 2TB Hard Drive for a reasonable price($100-200 is the budget). I'm looking for something I can pick up at my local JBHIFI,OfficeWorks,Dick Smith etc but I am open to online stores.

I'm looking for something reliable and will last me a for a long amount of time.

Tahnk you!

If it is for the OS, get an ssd. If it's for storage get a Western Digital green drive. MSY is one of the cheapest stores.

    • And if it's storage, you might well find that the sweet spot is higher than 1 or 2TB. For instance, 3TB for $120 is perfectly possible.

      • sane is exactly right about this; for example, I scored a 5TB external Seagate drive for $150 from Officeworks recently, via this deal:

So given your stated budget, if the drive is for storage/backup purposes, you should be looking at drives that are at least 3TB or more, IMHO. It may seem a bit excessive/unnecessary capacity-wise, but you'll find that once you have the storage capacity at your disposal, you find ways to make use of it… backing up CDs/DVDs you bought yesteryear to your drive via free software, to view on the telly via a 'Chromecast' any time you like, etc

  • WD and seagate are the two top brands, usually carry a 3 year warranty. I prefer WD.
Below that is Toshiba, and all the other smaller less reliable brands.
If you are talking about external portable hard drives, 1TB are usually $70-90 and 2TB are usually $129-149. But if you keep an eye open on OzBargain you can get them a little cheaper every now and then.

Visit the store pages to see whats on special, there's usually one on special at one of the stores every week.

  • MSY usually do weekend deals. I'd wait and see what kind of offers MSY or Shopping Express have.

  • desktop 3.5" or laptop 2.5" ?

  • I'll give you a good hard drive for free if you like. What's your number bud?

    • That is very kind of you, I'll send you a message in a bit.

  • Thanks for all the help everyone!
