  • Can change to
    Same day delivery: FREE

    cnet review for those interested
    http://www.cnet.com/products/seagate-backup-plus-desktop/

spoke too soon as I got this in the description
    Back ordered: 1
    Dispatched in 14-18 business days

    • 1) How do you select same day delivery?
      2) I read "Dispatched in 14-18 business days" or "Collect in 14-18 business days". So will it be same day delivery when it's dispatched 14-18 days from order?

      • +1

I saw it at the payment stage and changed it from free delivery to same day delivery - free. Here is what is says in the email confirmation.

        SGBP5000GB KY-SEAGATE 5TB BACKUP PLUS DESK TBC 1.000(BO 1)135.45 135.45 149.00
        CSCDELU SAME DAY DELIVERY SURCHARGE 1.000 0.00 0.00 0.00
Ordered Net Amount 135.45 GST 13.55
        Total Amount Inc. GST 149.00

What concerns me is the (BO 1) which I assume is back order
yeah it says it at the bottom of the page
BO and TBC - Refers to any item that is not currently in stock and will therefore be sourced directly from our supplier(s). For further information
regarding estimated delivery time frame, please contact Officeworks Customer Service on 1300 633 423.

    • Free delivery depends on location - at the checkout stage delivery went from free to $25.95 in my case.

    • Cheap cheap

  • 4/5 stars at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Desktop-External-Storage-STDT5…

Cheapest on ebay is $284 delivered, great find OP.

  • Link redirected to 404 for me.

    so does officeworks.com.au though.

    • nevermind, must be vpn.

  • -6

Pretty cheap but I won't buy one don't really need it. Probably price error anyway.

    • -6

Your comment isn't offensive but I won't upvote it as it doesn't deserve it. Probably going to be deleted anyway.

  • Well that was an impulse buy i never thought I'd do. Thanks OP, that price is great!!

    • +1

Yep, but at that price I suddenly had a use for it…

  • +18

Ever since I've signed up for this site I've been impulse buying haha damnit

    • +3

welcome to ozbargain where you'll save save save or spend spend spend!

  • Great price for a huge amount of storage
Fighting the urge to buy one

  • +2

I'm betting price error, it's simply too cheap…

    • well…. over a year ago now i got some 4tb's for $139'ish… this could well be genuine

    • +4

      Not unbelievably cheap though.

DSE had 4TB for $144.15 at the end of June.

AusPost had 3TB for $99 at the end of January.

Officeworks had 4TB for $159 in December last year.

If Officeworks didn't have stock, it would be an ideal opportunity for them to organise a group-deal with Seagate with all our orders (Seagate AU has stock according to its website). A win/win/win situation for Officeworks, Seagate and us.

      • Those are not Backup Plus ?

        • No they aren't.

  • ordered 2, lets see if it comes through (got free delivery too)

  • ordered one pick up in Midland all good so far

  • Pickup said out of stock. Had to order delivery. Free anyway

  • Shame it's only USB2 (according to the specs).
    Still a good price though!

    • "SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port (required for USB 3.0 transfer speeds or backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports at USB 2.0 transfer speeds)2"
      from http://www.seagate.com/au/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-ha…

      • Oh, stupid site then… I went to the specifications and..:

        External Drive Type Desktop
        Interface USB 2.0
Hard Drive Type External hard drive

        • think the 1st tab is more accurate. ON officeworks "features tab" it does say "You can connect to a Super Speed USB 3.0 port to take advantage of fast data transfer speeds between your device and the hard drive."

    • I think those specs are wrong, it also says 4 year warranty when the front page says 3.

      • Haha someone on the wacky tobaccy manning the Officeworks site..

      • Front page specs look more accurate.

In line with official seagate website re USB and warranty.

        http://www.seagate.com/au/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-ha…

      • +1

Everyone who buys one should print (or PDF) the front page for the warranty details - I've returned a Buffalo external drive to officeworks for warranty before and initially they didn't believe it had a 3yr warranty, I showed them a printout of their website showing 3yr warranty and they refunded it on the spot. They weren't doing buffalo drives any more so didn't have the details on their website any more, but even if they did there's no guarantee they wouldn't have changed the warranty term at some point.

        • Don't these actually say 3 year warranty on the box?

        • @unity1: Are you talking about the buffalo or the seagate? If buffalo, mine was nearing the 3yr mark and I'd thrown the box (and all paperwork, excluding my receipt) out, so it was only the fact that I had warranty details from their site that saved me. If you're talking about the seagate then it doesn't really matter, a store is able to offer a longer warranty than the manufacturer if they wish, so if they have it on their website it would be easy to get it honored.

haha comeon guys, 5TB drives are relatively new to the retail market, why would they make it only USB 2.0 (imagine transferring 5TB on usb 2.0… devastating)

  • Great price indeed! Bought a couple. Thanks OP.

  • Awesome price!

  • Ordered, Cheers Trent!

  • +2

I'll wait when 5TB becomes portable.

  • +2

Ordered one and the refund email arrived before the payment email…

    • trolling much?

My order went through. Received confirmation of payment. No "refund email" received.

      • Not trolling at all. Paypal sent me an email saying officeworks has refunded me.

        • ahhh. weird. i used CC. no issues so far?
try cc and play the waiting game…

        • @ameel:
Yeah I'm going to try that now.

        • @whitty: I paid with Paypal completely fine even got a order number/pdf I'm assuming the last column means delivery date which is 13/7 - 16/7 for me

    • +8

did you order through vpn … they auto cancel orders from overseas ..

      • I did. I'll try again without it. Thanks.

  • ordered one in canberra. thanks op.

  • Order one, too hard to resist… my forth external hard drive.

  • Ordered one for local click and collect, but not sure if it will go through since officeworks might wanna be like dickysmithy out too. Not sure how they treat previous customer with their pricing error. Although I did get the confirmation of my order…hopefully goes through..

  • Ordered one too. Too good to pass!

  • I have been waiting for this day to come for some time now, cheers OP!

  • Bought 2, Local Click and Collect, thanks Trent!

  • its all on back order 14-18 days

    worth $4us month?

  • +1

anyone know if this can be used internally? i.e. for a NAS

    • +1

im thinking the same thing too. wouldnt mind a couple to put into my new microserver.

  • Most likely this drive is inside ST5000DM000

    • The Seagate SR5000DM000 features Seagate Shingled Magnetic Recording, or SMR, to maximize the number of tracks per inch on a single disk.

Review describes "inconsistent and just flat out strange performance", consistent with SMR.

      • I get great throughput with it. Really good for storing videos and photos.

  • Bought one might keep it , part of my addiction.

    • You have a big heart.

  • +2

Thanks Trent. Bought 2 and a Sharpie to make it to $300. Going to TRS this baby when I'm going overseas next 2 weeks :)

    • You can only TRS it if you're holding it in your sweaty little hands at the Customs Desk. Since it's on back order…

  • ordered one..thanks op

  • -1

There was an issue processing your payment. Please re-enter your payment details, or try a different payment method.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

tried everything, cant get it to accept my payment for 3 of them……. damn you office works……

    • +3

Why don't you try buying them individually?

      • ok, your a bit of my new favorite… i think i managed to get 2 of them doing it singularly (still waiting for the 2nd email)

either that or all my errored ones actually went through…. and im gong to have 473 new 5tb hard drives sitting on my door step next week…… thats going to hurt the bank balance… :(

  • +2

Geez it is 1:36 in the morning…what u all doing that early on OZbargain :)

    • +6

      It never sleeps

      • +1

lol, maybe because u r a deal junkie. well, so am I

    • Peach of a delivery! Well bowled, Trent!

    • I work night shifts, but had an early night off…

  • Just bought 2. Let's wait and see if OW will honour them.

    • +3

don't think its a pricing error they also have it listed on the eBay store for the same price but its out of stock.

      www.ebay.com.au/itm/221797231505

ebay's description says 4yr warranty and its USB 3.0 connectivity

      • fingers crossed…and toes

      • Somebody just sold 20 of these for $130 over the past few days….weird.

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-Expansion-5TB-External-Ha…

        • oh what….. sif that wasn't posted on here ><

        • I think thats the starting price not the buy it now price.

        • @paulaus:

It looks like they sold for $130, but you'd wonder how you could make any money doing it for that price?

          http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

        • That says expansion while this one is backup plus. Not sure if there is much difference

        • @jimbler:

the seller hasn't been left feedback yet.. but the items have only been sold 2 or 3 days ago.. so we'll see

        • Fell off the back of a truck?

        • id say its a hacked/phished account and the drives never existed.

  • I'm getting rejected for both click and collect and delivery. Tried one and two drives but keeps popping up right at the end 'Sorry, some items in your car are out of stock'.

    Ozbargained?

    • someone said something about shouldn't order them through VPN. Maybe try that?

      • VPN switched off ATM.

    • Just tried and went to the final payment page, no problem.

      • Mine goes to final payment screen, its when clicking that button to finalise the purchase it doesn't work. Also using PayPal not cc.

        • I am having the same problem…..

        • yea see above, mine did do the same when i tried to get 3 at once, i did managed 2 singular orders before even that stopped working, i think its been OzB'd (out of stock)

    • +1

Edit: just cc and it worked for 2 click and collect. Received confirmation email also.

  • Amazing deal once again Trent. Cheers!

Now the hard choice of do I crack it open to put it in my pc…

  • +1

My paypal is charged however, i cant see the order in my officeworks account…

I did get a confirmation email from them though…

    • i cant see the order in my officeworks account…

      I can..

      I'm actually hoping this will be refunded.. i still have 2x 2tb 2.5" that I haven't opened -_-

      • +1

Sell one of the 2tb ones that you haven't opened. I'm sure someone on ebay or gumtree would take it off your hands.

    • Oh no i have the same problem :(

    • Same boat. I imagine they were in no way prepared for the amount of orders that came in.

      We'll find out tomorrow anyway.

  • +2

Free delivery in the big smoke, $26 in the sticks for simple country folk.

  • Thanks alot op :-)
