I saw this last night and decided to let 'fate' guide me. If it was still available in the morning, I'd buy it…

    Damn you Ozbargain! ;)

  • Edit…

  • +1

I'm just here for MJ's popcorn

  • +1

    is it 5400 or 7200?

  • +2

    Out of stock, folks.

Sorry, some of the items in your shopping cart are out of stock. Please remove highlighted items and proceed.

    • +1

yep i tried getting another 2 but no luck all morning, now coming up with out of stock.

      • I am still able to add to cart and proceed to next step for Login.
Edit - Ignore. I got OOS message in next screen.

      • I ordered successfully 30 minutes ago.

    • +1

      Same here. Dang.

    • +1

Yep, got the same thing just as I tried to order then, even though it showed stock at my local store (14-18 days C&C though) and delivery available. Entered all my details, went through Paypal, then they said it was out of stock…

      Damn it.

    • +1

Yeah I'm getting the same. I meant to get it this morning but had to leave for work. Oh well it would have been nice to have but it just wasn't meant to be. My NAS has pretty solid redundancy so I should be good. Famous last words?

  • +1

My order was cancelled and refunded.

    • Maybe you missed the stock; placed order late?

      • Have the name Broden and ordered 10? ;)

  • +1

For those who are wondering if the internal drive can be used for NAS, I am using these at the moment in my Synology with no issue.

  • Just missed out

  • -5

Wow 5TB capacity with USB2.0 transfer speeds is like filling up a swimming pool with a tea spoon.

    • +5

It's USB 3, specs wrong on OW site.

  • I can still Add to Cart

    • at checkout after a few steps it will tell you

  • -4

5TB transferred at USB2 speeds of 60Mb persecond take 23.6 hours of transferring of files.
5TB transferred at USB3 speeds of 640Mb persecond take about 2.1 hours of transferring of files.
A preferred performance time with USB3.0 for any large drives >.5TB.

    • +1

You reckon the HDD can achieve 640MB/s ?

      • it cant lol.. max may be 150.

  • +15

Wohooo I got JB Hifi to match it for me (they were selling it for like $319), :). Really happy - i got the HDD instantly no waiting period needed(or worrying about whether OW would cancel the deal), ;)

    • +2

      wow nice one. good job!
      was there any reluctance?

      • +1

The guy checked and double checked on the OW links, he even tried to add it to cart, LOL. In the end, he was willing to match it up no problem with a ticket discount. :))

        • +2

nice job! always funny to see them squirm trying to get out of it…

    • Any chance of posting receipt?

      • +2

Yeah I can do that abit later.

    • +1

      Thumbs up on JB Hifi.

  • Can people please tell me what your order status says? (it's in my Accounts > my orders)

    • 10-07-2015
      Order Status: Open

      • did u get a confirmation email?

and what payment method you used?

        • nothing from OW yet, paid via PP

edit: and have been charged by PP

    • +2

Mine comes up blank. Not sure if it's because I created the account at the end of the ordering process..

      • Same here. No email from OW, No money deducted by Paypal, No order status on OW accounts.

        • I got email confirmation and money deducted from PayPal. Just no details of the order in my officeworks account.

        • Happened to me too, I ended ordering another after creating account.

        • @katwal: so you ordered twice?

    • I got a confirmation email/receipt from OW (for 2 drives). Paid via CC. Ordered this morning about 7:30am (Perth time).

  • +2

    Price matched at Jbhifi

    • which store?

    • See, awesome right, no need to wait, ;).

      • +1

I got mine at JB Hifif Mq Centre

    • Any chance you could post a receipt?

      Would like to try also.

      Thanks.

      • they won't price match their own store

  • GEEEEEZ!!! I must have been sleeping!!!, what a Deal!!!

  • is there a bloody OZB App that can notify me????

    • Subscribe to the RSS feed?

    • Back in stock if you need one!

  • +1

I just rang OfficeJerks and they told me the item is out of stock. They will try to get more in or will refund my money.

  • +1

OW's dastardly plan is for JB to lose money by price matching.
Let's get DSE to price match too. :)

  • lol they removed the price from the ad as well

good work whoever got the price match. smart thinking.
the rest of us wait to see the dreaded canceled email

    From: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=34052.30

These disks are SMR. I got one a little more than a month ago. Unfortunately can't return it because I didn't keep the packaging. I've already got 4728 bad sectors on it.

You have to understand the technology. SMR disks keep the random writes on an outer partition sequentially. When the disk is idle, it will start doing garbage collection and do the writes on the actual tracks, in which every track on the affected band must be re-written.

So, performance is usually 180MB reads and writes. But top the persistent outer partition, and speeds crawl to 20-30 MB. This seems to happen after several hundred GB, which you hit often if you do things like balance or defrag or mass-convert data.

BTW, if you've stopped using your drive, and it's still spinning and the head is moving, DON'T turn it off. It's doing it's garbage collection. It can take up to 10 hours to complete garbage collection.

Unfortunately, my use-case involved continuous read-write operations for days on end. This killed the drive. I'm trying to see if I can't remove the bad sectors by not submitting the disk to the normal workload, just as an occasionnal backup.

To be fair, these disks are fine as external backups (which is how they are sold), but completely unfit for raid use.

    • +2

what does that mean in plain English?

      • +18

use it for porn and not for a OLTP database - so ok for 95% of ozb.

        • hahaha .. that was definitely not my intended purpose ..

        • just a correction its should be 99%

      • +3

These drives use a different technology than standard hard drives. They're perfect for storing your movies, music, documents and other files BUT will get bad performance if you run computer and programs off of it.

    • +3

Seriously who would use these for RAID.. just asking for trouble.

  • +6

Here you go guys! JB Hi-Fi Receipt

    • Thanks champ.

    • how would we approach them?

if we give another jb hi fi store the receipt they would just contact that store that you bought it from

which would lead to the OW website which now has no stock…

    • +2

No point now really… it's not on officeworks website = insta reject
JB Hifi won't price match themselves on a receipt from the net

      • +3

Sorry I tried to upload it as fast as I could :(

  • Hmmm checked order status in my account and says rejected &%$#$%^¦¦¦¦[[[##@|$

    • lol

    • when did you place your order?

    • Mine still Open.

      • mine still isn't even showing up in the orders page. I did get a confirmation email though. Purchased 2am last night

        • Same issue with me. I had chat with customer service team. They say that supply team is processing the funds and once it is done, they will release order number and post it. But I am doubtful.

        • @akd: ah I see, we'll see what happens then. Gotta be in it to win it ;)

    • bought 1 at midnight and 1 at 1am

  • I've got confirmation email to pick up in East Perth when it's ready.

  • Picked one up from JB by price matched. Really happy…

  • +1

    Back in stock!!!

    • wowzer

      • MIRAGE - doesnt let me pay lol

  • N/A displayed now?

  • It is N/A now. Well done to OP and those who managed to price match at JB.

  • wow I thought I got a good deal for $178 :P few months back!

  • I ordered a few mins after this deal was posted and it doesn't appear in my order list at all. Got paypal email confirmation but nothing from officeworks.

  • I got one last night. MY CC was charged so I guess that's a good sign. I already have a QNAP with 4x5TB drives running in Raid5, but I'm going to use this as a backup for my more important files in case something goes tragically wrong with my NAS.

    • be careful this uses smr technbology

      see above post

      • I'm not using it as active storage. I use WD Red's in my QNAP.
This Seagate 5TB will only be turned on when I'm actively copying stuff to it. It's just an extra layer of protection if I have more than one drive die in my QNAP's Raid5 array.
I'll keep that in mind what you said though.

      • won't all larger capacity drives 5tb and greater be using SMR tech?

I think they hit the limit and SMR is the only current way to get 5tb or more..

Otherwise they have to add more platters, and it would be not fit the hdd case
and it would just cost more..

        • Western Digital's 5TB and 6TB models don't use it. Hitachi has an 8TB without it, though it's an expensive Helium-filled model.

  • this is crazy my order says cancelled rejected -$149 but if i click track my order it says Order 15161**** is awaiting allocation, please check again later.

  • All day going, cannot be price error

  • Out of stock again.

    • Have heard officially that apparently they will be back in stock in a few weeks. Fingers crossed.
What is the difference between SGEX5000GB (Which is $288) and SGBP5000GB ?

  • Sold out at World Square :(

  • Missed out on one for myself but Great Deal and Great Find OP!

  • -8

I need a summary please. So…without reading 3 pages of text..what happened in a nutshell with this one? What approximate % were honored…what % members are now heartbroken?

    • +10

Once we went through the checkout for a lot of people weirdly the price dropped to $100.00 and a lot have collected already. Some kind of glitch, winning.
They also had free icy cold cans of coke at the checkout, winning again.
