As always they are lying about the output. In the most ideal conditions (adequate current and heat dissipation, which these little things typically don't provide) a Cree Q5 bin XR-E (which is what this almost certainly is) might put out just over 200 lumens at the emitter itself (as opposed to what actually makes it out the front which is significantly less even with a decent reflector, and these things barely have a reflector at all). Furthermore when you actually focus the beam although you end up with a brighter hot spot you're actually throwing away close to half the total output because the focus mechanism here is horribly inefficient.

Having tested several samples myself against other flashlights that are known quantities in terms of output, using both AA and 14500s, I'd peg these things at somewhere between 80 and 150 lumens. There is close to zero quality control and the driver you get seems to be a lucky dip sort of affair so things can vary that much even among multiple samples from the same seller.

Still these are useful, and certainly worth a few bucks.

I have one of these, and would not pay $3 for it again. Very poor beam and seems to chew through batteries, much more so than other AA lights.

I own some Fenix, Sunwayman, Nitecore lights. However my best flashlight purchase were a pair of Convoy S2+ which I have strapped to my bike. They cost me $20USD. They have an awesome beam & tint and are of very good build quality. They've probably done 500km+ on my bike without any issues.

Personally, I'd spend a few more bucks and get a Convoy, or similar.
