Anyone else taken a gamble being cheapo and lost?

So I bought some shoes from Eastbay last week when it was 20% off (size 15 feet so I kind of have to buy from the US).

The postage was $US40 and I thought "that's way too high and I don't need them right away". So I posted them to my Shipito address figuring that their economy airmail has always worked out cheaper for me in the past.

The package arrived there today and it cost me $80 in postage. So not only did the package take almost a week longer, it cost me twice as much to post.

Anyone else like to share when they were too smart for their own good?

  • When I buy from Eastbay/any other place with high shipping, I always buy with friends so we can split shipping lol.

It's a long game. Sometimes I lose but overall I come out ahead so I am ok with it

All the time mate. That's one of the problems with being el cheapo. Sometimes the schemes back fire.

You know what they say, big feet….big postage cost

  • Yeah, bought a rice cooker that was $30 from China and it ended up costing over $150 because of the shipping costs.

At one point they even advised that I send it to someone locally (China) as a gift instead.

  • Yes, I figured uni wouldn't start handing out parking fines in the first couple of weeks.
Got a fine on the last day of the second week was already going to pay from the third week.
Ended up being 15 bucks worse off then if I had paid everyday for those two weeks which isn't too bad.

  • Quite often with clothing - I often order the wrong size (different brands etc) and either they don't accept returns or the cost of returning it is prohibitive….

Oh, and recently I ordered the wrong type of mattress protector from Tontine 24 hour sale - unfortunately they refuse to do change of mind returns :(
