Great price for a great shoe. I've had mine for about 6 months and loving them. From memory I paid about $180 for mine.

These are being cleared out as the new 22's are due out next month.

    :( no size 13

  • Great price but just bought new Gel Cumulous's a couple of months back. :(

    Are Kayano's better than Cumulous?

    • +1

      Hell to the yes :)

      • Cheers. Too late though, I procrastinated and lost. :)

These are two very different types of running shoes for different types of feet (Pronation). Gel Cumulous is for neutral or underpronation runners while Kayano is for overpronation runners. Both are great shoes if they fit your feet.

Nimbus would be closer to the Kayano in terms of premium tiers as well.

        • Agreed. Kayano's dont work for my feet. I have Nimbus now but have also owned the past 3 Kinsei's. Kinsei are a little harder to find in Oz, they used to be an athletes foot exclusive i think, but also a little more expensive than the kayano, so i usually just wait for a big sale in the UK

Though, I don't know what any of that means… But it sounds like it's $89s worth.

I've always found the high-end Asics shoes ultra comfortable, tight and it actually has a bounce to the step.

Thanks. Those words surely sounds like $89s worth of marketing. :P

Depends what you're using them for. For walking, low impact, $50 shoe would be fine. For running, high impact, i couldn't trust my body to something thats was just put together to look like a shoe that has 20 years of R&D in them.

If they have your style and size it might be cheaper on catch of the day?

You can use the trial membership for free shipping, you get a $30 voucher and the voucher code REWARD30 gives you $30 off. I think. So it may be worth a shot.

  • Awesome! Thanks OP. Just bought a pair. Perfect timing as my current running shoes are starting to wear.

If you're a 'serious' runner, best to go and to a proper store (eg Athlete's foot) and test to see whether you over-pronate, under-pronate or are neutral. They do this by getting you to walk over a pad and then the computer displays where your feet apply pressure. You can then go to the Asics website and use it to select the appropriate shoe for your purpose (Eg. running track/trail/road) and pronation. Or get some advice from the salesperson in the store.

I buy the Asics Gel Nimbus given I'm 'neutral' and run mainly on roads/footpaths. The Kayanos would not be suitable for me. Generally I buy from CatchOfTheDay when there is a good sale / coupon code available (eg. $30 off) so the price ends up to be around $130-$140 including shipping (RRP is $220).

This is good advice, but you ideally need to try shoes on to really find a match - coupled with the information you have outlined. Eg. My foot pronates more than average, but wasn't prescribed a shoe to rectify that. Looking at my running style with runners on, it ended up being a more neutral shoe that I left the store with (Brooks Glycerin's from memory).

There may be different schools of thought but some say not to limit the body doing its normal movement - too firm padding to cease the pronation can potentially cause other issues. Anyone know more about this, and care to comment?

If you are a 'serious' runner, you should get your feet videoed on a treadmill to determine if you are a under/overpronator or neutral, and then try on the different shoes/brands themselves on the treadmill.

Eg Active Feet is a great store in Melbourne. I went through the process, took a lot of their time, and bought a pair of shoes from them (near retail price) as I appreciated their service. However, with the correct shoe and size established, have bought the same shoe online for much cheaper ever since

      • I did feel a bit bad when I went to Athletes foot, got them to test me for pronation and spent time providing advice on shoes, then left with nothing cos other stores were selling the shoe for significantly cheaper (eg. Rebel Sport and COTD) and they couldn't drop the price any more! Oh well, true OzBargain style I say.

        • Thats why I bought the shoe from the shop. The service was unique and exceptional and worth paying for. We can Ozbargain other items where service is not required, or else shops like Active Feet wont exist anymore.

        • @Riker88: true but the price premium in this case was excessive, about 50 dollars more than other sports stores. If it was 5 or 10 bucks more I probably would have bought from them but they need to be somewhat competitive!

  • Damn. Was too slow. My size all gone. First one of these deals in a while - at least that i've spotted - with 2e's as well (wish Catch of the Day would offer a Kayano in 2e).

  • Wow that was fast. All sizes except smallest one are gone.

  • It has been a long time since I have seen an Asics deal on OzBargain. They used to be commonplace.

  • I personally find Asics to be slightly overrated, they are like the Apple of running shoes; well known but little substance and a short lifespan. Personally I prefer Mizuno, they make some awesome runners, particularly if you need stability shoes! The Wave Rider or Wave Inspire (my personal fave) are great. Of course, each to their own and hopefully if you are an Asics fan then you've managed to score yourself a bargain!

  • bought last pair of men shoes, out of stock after purchase. Lucky
