Kickboxing for 15 Year Old in Cherrybrook (Sydney)

Hi, My son would like to start a martial art such as kick-boxing or muay-thai, he is a beginner and we would like to have it near the Cherrybrook area. Anyone know of any good places near us or could give us any advice? We have gone to a free introductory class in a martial art place in Castle Hill, however it was quite expensive around $350 a month, and the man advised us that our son should come at least twice a week. The price above also includes all equipment and uniform needed.
Do you guys think this is too overpriced?
First time doing a martial arts of any sort.
Any advice and help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry OP, can't help you with location since I'm not in that area. However what I can tell you is that $350 is wayyy overpriced!

Anything sub $100 would be reasonable I reckon. (I used to get charged $70 p/m doing Muay Thai, 2 lessons a week).

    • Yeh, sounded a bit fishy when he said $350, will keep looking around.
      Thanks

If you want something cheaper you may have to travel a little but further. Local PCYCs generally offer cheaper classes and may not be as whizz bang as a dedicated service provider. If you look at Hornsby PCYC they do $6 kick boxing classes for under 18s, run on Tuesday nights 6:30pm to 8pm.

    • Nice! how does it work? do we need a membership to pcyc?
      Thanks

      • Yes, you will need a membership to the PCYC. For under 18yrs an annual membership is normally less than $20

  • $350 is expensive but it sounds like a full time club where your son could train everyday of the week - if that's what he's after. SKM Martial Arts are at Hornsby Aquatic Centre and offer beginners Muay Thai and Kickboxing classes for around $13.50 a lesson for students. While they are more expensive than pcyc they are worth checking out as the instruction is great and would be great for your son if he hasn't trained before.. Good luck for whichever class you find.
