why is it only 6 months warranty?

    • +1

      Because it's High Quality.
It can even "can keep a charge for up to six hours"

      Wow, sign me up.

  • Is this the only brand? No swag?

Cheaper versions are available, generally all brands from the swag board, monorover, IO hawk are identical however there are some particular parts that need to be considered when purchasing:

    • Motor size, the SB Glide has 350 Watt electric motors, in other versions the motors range from as low as 200 Watts.
    • Model version - the older version (without the rubber wheel protector) have older self balancing software resulting in a less comfortable ride
    • Source code - we use the original source code not a cheap replication code.

The 6 month warranty is Australian based meaning no international shipping costs and extremely long wait times for repairs or replacements on faulty products.

    • What do you do with the source code? Source code of what?

    • +1

What is the point of 2x350w motors if it is electrically limited to 10km/h?? Wouldn't we be better off getting the cheaper/lower watt version then?

      • 10 mph = 16kph.

        • Thanks for the maths! You might need to read again….

You might need to read again ……….. Or it is another example of internal inconsistency in the site.

          HOW FAST DOES IT GO?
The self-balancing board goes approximately 10 miles per hour. The average walking person can only go around six miles per hour. A new user can get results by testing the device when they first ride it. They can tilt it forward, examine its reaction and test the true speed on it.

        • @Gershom
Sorry I didn't see that one on their site, but I saw the below.

          HIGHLY MANEUVERABLE
Our scooters can support up to 100kg and it’s top speed is between 10 km/h which is fast in comparison to the average walking speed of 6 km/h. The scooter weighs a 10kg and is dust and waterproof so is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Anyone else feeling comfortable about the level of information on this product? might as well go to alibaba

O.P, you are not even trying if this is the best B.S that you can come up with

who is the supplier? does it come with the Australia safety tick? I've seen so many people selling these and knock off's that I am not sure who to buy from, especially when spending around $400 (due to high postage cost from china for these). Alibaba/aliexpress have some okay prices, but it seems IO Chic is the original creator.

    Tick: http://www.austest.com.au/au_nz_approvals.php

    • Not sure what you are trying to get at, but C-Tick has nothing to do with safety.

What safety standard would you propose it is tested and certified to?

      • +1

I read that if selling electronics without the tick then can risk fines, which would be my main concern. Therefore if buying this and then later selling if no longer using it, then could I get a fine if original seller has not got the correct certification?
From the link the tick says it is safety related. What do you mean by it has nothing to do with safety?
        Thanks for your help.

        • That refers to electrical devices connected to and primarily operated via mains power. The only time you want this connected to mains is to charge the battery, and during that time the device should be off (or the battery is removed from the device and charged separately?).

are these legal to use in Australia?

edit: I'm pretty sure if you use them in your own home/private property then these would be fine, but if you go out on a footpath/driveway, then good luck…

  • +2

or about $400AU on Aliexpress.com (shipped)

  • +2

What Australian states is this legal to use on public footpaths?

    • only QLD, and you'll need to wear a helmet (unless you have an exemption).

      • Even worse, then you have to wear the exemption…lol.

Anything over 200W is illegal in public space.

Wonder if there are any good deals on '200W' stickers

You can get these for about $300 USD on amazon too. They look fun though!

    • Also, how light must I be for this to run at 10km/hr
What is actual max speed when user weight is between 75% and 100% of max weight?

Use of English aside, please note the conflicting information provided on your site.

HOW DOES IT HOLD UP IN WET WEATHER
The SB Glide is dust and water resistant. It can handle a splash but be careful not to ride it through puddles or heavy rain.

    • Outdoor only if Hood weather. Ad simple.

For anyone buying these in NSW, keep in mind that these are illegal to use in areas accessible to the general public. Only bicycles are allowed to have assist motors on them, and even then they are only allowed to have a motor up to 200 watts. People have been fined for this in the past. I personally don't see the point of having such powerful motors (2 x 350W) on a device that's limited - my 200W e-bike seems pretty powerful!

    http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/unregistered.ht…

    • There are two types of power-assisted pedal cycles exempt from registration: 200 watt electric power-assisted pedal cycles and 250 watt pedalecs.

There are also the European pedalec bicycles.

Oh man some of the quotes on this site are great:

"Consumers can use self-balancing scooters to move about the house when they are sickly"
Yeah I'll just chuck my grandma with a broken hip on here, looks easier than walking.

"It works similar to the way a skateboard works, and many skateboard fans use the SB slide."
In that its almost as far from a skateboard that a wheeled device can be.

"HOW LONG CAN I RIDE IT?
The self-balancing board can keep a charge for up to six hours. A new owner will want to charge it immediately. That charge will probably take two hours or less. The SB Glide is an attractive unit that shoppers can purchase today. They can purchase one for a little over $500 and start having immediate fun. The unit can provide hours of skateboarding fun for children and adults of all ages. Celebrities such as Justin Bieber have invested in the unit for their enjoyment. The high-quality products at SB are sure to provide a stellar experience."
Wat? Talk about run on sentences, this a paragraph that doesn't know when to quit!

    • +1

You mean scoot on not run on sentences.

  • Removed.

  • +1

    Illegal, so really useless.
What's the point to spend $550 on something that cannot go outside, cannot be seen in public, cannot be used when it is raining. Yes we can hardly use it…
Having Justin bieber as a sponsor does not make it any better.

"Our scooters are made with the same materials and parts as the Swag board, IO Hawk & Monorover without the fancy brand name"

    • sounds like those junky 'Soniq' brand TVs from JB hifi - allegedly made from 'brand name' parts but in reality very bad build quality

"Each self balancing scooter has been tested and inspected before shipping to ensure reliability and consistency across all products"

    • so in other words they're used and not brand new? what is the testing process? rather concerning that you have such little faith in the product that each needs to be tested for "reliability and consistency"

"SB Glide Self Balancing Scooter rated 4.5 out of 5 based on 37 ratings."

"The guys at SB Scooters were extremely helpful and gave me tips on how to ride the SB Glide in minutes." - Leann, Sydney Australia

"One of the cheapest self balancing scooters I could find in Australia. It has an amazing battery life and glides along smooth surfaces. Thanks!"
    - Stephen, Melbourne Australia"

    • who has given these ratings and testimonials, given that you have only taken pre orders and not actually delivered any products yet?
    • +2

Well-said on all points, especially the "testimonials".
