This is good, they have not run a discount for a long time whereas it used to be fairly regular.

Having said that, the $ fees and charges are so high it's barely worth booking flights with points. Upgrades are better value but you need to be in a reasonable fare bucket. It's really quite hard to use points efficiently.

Agreed. Their redemption for upgrades are of better value

      Amen!

The QFF beast is so loarge now that it is very difficult to get bang for your buck using points, particularly since "Discount Economy" was introduced and expanded.

Personally the only semi efficient way to use points for me is to buy long economy flights outright with points when they are discounted. This usually means flying on an A380 (which is cool and not something you can get on a budget airline) and will also earn status credits, if they are even worth anything.

Or keep the big bonus Qff points from all the credit card promos and redeem for international Business class tickets outright. Get decent value out of the points.

    • for international it's right, but domestic can be diff story. and this promo applies to domestic n regional only

  • Flight search appears broken for me.

    • starts from tomorrow - 26/8/15

it's on TODAY! just booked business class

    • Where are we travelling to?
Edit: nvm, didn't see domestic only. Pft!

booked a SYD/MEL return for 13200 points. There Economy, return in Business. It stated that I got 10400 points discount. Couldn't figure out the maths but am happy with the deal! Return in economy both ways seemed to be 13200 too.

    • How much was the booking fee? $50 maybe?

      • $60

        • Tried this but it must have been fixed as it doesn't work.

        • @Spizz: Are you booking for travel after 10 October?

Like any flights, the price is different depending on what date you want to go…

        • @inherentchoice:

Yes and it doesn't give me the discounted 13200 point total.

        • @Spizz: Yup I checked on my dates again and the 'free business' return isn't there. They haven't charged me my points either yet so am anticipating a call from them.. Also didn't get a confirmation email - but can find my flight on my Qantas account and have already selected my seats..

  • yeh it seems they have another promo where you can get one business class and the return leg economy for the points of two economy tickets….worked for me but couldnt figure out why

  • Looking at an $89 Jetstar flight… it's still about $89 if using points. It's 9600 points (~$64) + $25 booking fee = $89.

However, it does include bags so I guess this deal is just like getting free 20kg bags? Trouble is the flight is for people who won't be taking any checked luggage on the flight.
