10x Flybuys Points on Bunnings Gift Cards (In-Store Only) @ Coles

640

Full credit to FreePoints

Next week, Coles will have a cracker offer. Second time we've seen this offer this year.

It's 5% back, which is was unheard of for Bunnings gift cards. It seems that Bunnings Gift Card promotions have been a bit more frequent this year than in previous years. The ability to buy $7,000 worth over the week with one Flybuys card, however, makes this offer even more exciting.

Before it's asked, the Bunnings gift cards in this deal can only be redeemed in-store, as Coles currently only sells the "traditional" version with no PIN.

Limit of 10,000 points per day.

Limit of 5 cards per day.

Enjoy!

  • So let's say I'm going to buy a $500 tool at Bunnings, I should buy $500 of Bunnings Gift Cards at Coles (and receive 2500 FB points), then buy the tool and get another 2500 FB points with OnePass, getting $50 back in credit at Coles?

    • +2

      37.5

      $500 cards to 5000 FB = $25

      • Bunnings has Flybuys redemption at POS so if you purchase those Gift Cards the day before, you can redeem the 5000 points such that you only pay $475 for that $500 tool.

FYI you can exchange the traditional gift card for a new gift card (that can be used online) in store. I did it myself on the weekend.

This is a thing? Why on earth are online GC still store only then?

They want you in the store, knowing I will fill a trolley with crap don't need. One Pass is great for the post shipping guilt too, and you realise what you've done - but take half back and go again just the same!

@3atc3 thank you for this !

Bunnings gift card are so annoying to use

    • what makes them annoying?

      • Maybe they changed it but they can't be used online, can't check balance

        • See above.

      • +1

This may have changed now, but last time i used one, you can't easily use part of the balance of a card. If you have a $100 GC, and you're spending $25 only, you either can't use the gift card or you need to accept change in new GCs (e.g. a $50 and $25 card). (variable load card) according to @surfingedge below.

If you spend $90+, and pay with $100 GC, they will give change in cash.
*edit - See comment below from @surfingedge - Change now provided a variable load card.
Also see comment below from @WookieMonster explaining the two types of GC.

If you're spending over $100 with a $100 GC, then there's no issue.

For me, most visits to Bunnings are $75-$200, so smaller cards are easier to deal with, but, their gift card system is terrible and needs to be updated. Sometimes Bunnings is really slow to update, they only added online shopping to their website in 2018

        • Also appears that Bunnings (my local ones anyway) haven't properly trained their check-out staff to process payments with these new gift cards. Held up the line on multiple occasions when using multiple gift cards in one transaction

    Love this deal

do Bunnings gift cards have an expiry date?

    • ACCC minimum expiry is 3 years.

Bunnings site states "No expiry", if you want to trust that for 3 years+ is up to you.

Obviously holding money in GCs long term is generally not a good idea (loses buying power over time, could lose the card, scammers can potentially brute force/ spend card without your knowledge etc etc).

    Waiting for Apple Gift Cards!

You no longer get cash as change when spending a bunnings GC. While the cards sold at coles can still only be used once and don't hold a balance, you will now get a new GC from bunnings as change, and this new GC can hold any amount as a balance and be used multiple times.

    • This also the online usable one? By multiple times do you mean multiple purchases on an initial balance then it's rubbish?
Or essentially a Bunnings debit card ie. Future refinds will use the same physical card?

      • +2

There are two version of Bunnings gift cards:

        • Traditional - this is the original version of Bunnings gift card that has no PIN.
        • Reducing balance - this is a new version of Bunnings gift card introduced earlier this year that has a PIN.

The version sold at Bunnings is the reducing balance one, which means the gift card you receive as change from Bunnings can be used online and in-store on as many purchases as you want until the gift card balance reaches zero.

  • "any questions, check out the FAQs"

Sorry mate, I don't have a spare 7 or 8 hours to read through that monstrosity of a thread :)

    Here's a question though.

If you buy $7,000 with one flybuys card over the week - what are the total savings? Based on Kayndev's earlier comment… It would seem to be a simple 7.5% discount, regardless of whether you spend $700 or $7,000.

    Cheers

    • I wrote that monstrosity of a thread, and I do not blame you for not checking it. It is trying to cater for different audiences!

If you purchase $7,000 in Bunnings gift cards during this deal, your Flybuys account will receive 70,000 Flybuys points (i.e. 10 points for every $1 spent on Bunnings gift cards). That converts into:

      • $350 worth of Flybuys points (assuming you redeem them for Flybuys Dollars, or an instant discount in-store at Coles / Bunnings / Liquorland / First Choice Liquor), or

      • 35,000 Velocity points.

If you opt for the Flybuys points, you are getting 5% of the gift card's face value back in the form of Flybuys points.

If you opt for the Velocity points, that depends on how you value Velocity points.

  • So this is only really an extra 5 points per $1, as if you have one pass you already earn 5/$1 if you

    • If you are purchasing in-store, you will still earn 5 points per $1 from OnePass when redeeming a Bunnings gift card, so for the amount paid with a gift card from this deal, you are effectively earning 15 points per $1.

  • Does anybody know if this deal expires by 29 Oct or at 11:59PM on 29 Oct? CBA app is unclear saying only "5 Days" remaining.

If these happen to overlap, I'm thinking that purchasing the Bunnos gift cards on Wed 29th will stack for an additional $10 cashback… or maybe $20 if buying the Coles gift cards with the Yello Special Gift Cards offer first? Is it possible to use these to buy other gift cards? Might be pushing the limit there.
