my 3 local stores gave me about 5 boxes about 2 weeks ago, i gave them out at work now everyone seems to love me.

I agree with Davo on this one. Odds are they have excess leftover from the recent promo months back and are just trying to offload them to free space in the back.
That's because back a few months ago, they didn't even bother giving them out to people who actually bought a large meal.
Considering the customers they get from 9pm to 4am, not giving them a glass that could be used as a weapon (without prompt) is a good thing

Nah I love the size, they're fairly durable (dropped one on tile without any issues last week) and they're cheap at $2 per glass originally.
Then friends started giving me theirs because they know I've replaced my whole cupboard, so now I have a boatload.
