Which SmartPhone to Buy for My Mum

Hi Guys

I am looking to buy a new smartphone for my Mum. She is not tech savvy but knows how to play few apps on smartphones

YouTube + Whatspp + Facebook + google + emails + photo/video

She wants a phone which as better pic/camera and good sound/music quality.

Good Internal storage with card slot would be better.

I don't want to spend more than $350 and don't want any non-branded ( not famous brands) phones.

I am keen to get Sony Xperia C3 which is under my Budget and gives all other features.

Not sure about other phones listed below has all those features.

I heard Lenovo K3 is good phone but not available in Australia ( only order online from overseas)

Can you please advise/guide me

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

    • No Chinese versions. Not that i am against of them but personally don't like it

Lenovo K3 Note is a Chinese phone!
In the phone market, Xiaomi is a MUCH better quality brand than Lenovo.

        • none of them is available in Australia and both come with International and Chinese Versions. Has to order from overseas.

  • Sounds like you've made the decision yourself! Sony Xperia C3 has all the features you want, well below the budget you've set.
Now it's time to find the best price.

    $280.35 + $26 shipping.

  • Maybe consider a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua ($336 outright from optus), 8GB version though

  • I personally don't think mid range phones offer the value that outdated flagships bring (they get discounted because the vendors want to get rid of their old stock). You'd be able to score flagships from 2013 within your budget easily. I've seen LG G2 coming down to $300 (though I cannot recommend it as it has no mSD card slot and few issues I have with the model), but I think you see my point.

    • She is not heavy user of Phone but defiantly wants something good with Music & Camera and talk with us on Skype to see her Grandchildren .

      • The reason I am suggesting this is, more than often, last gen flagships have better camera and everything at cheaper price.

  • Go for one of the Windows Phones.
They can be had dirt cheap, run all of the apps you need, easy to use, have software support that Androids are sorely lacking and tend to have very good cameras.
I'm an Android person myself, but for Parents I reckon iPhone or Windows Phone better suit their capabilities.

    • So which phone would you recommend from above list.

      • Probably the 820 from that list.
But I guess it depends on your Mum.. Maybe the big screen of the XL would suit the way she uses a phone?

  • I know its more expensive but LG G3 is around $400 for an Aust model. It would be a lot better than these (but of course a little more money)

    • That is close to $450. Out of Budget. There are more phone in that price range but i can't spend more than $350 .Little tight on Finance :)

      • Sorry, they must have gone up in price since I bought one for my son.

Moto G 3rd Gen will start selling here in the next week or two. It's $369 (RRP) but you should be able to get it cheaper than that, especially if Dick Smith carries it. Check the reviews - seems to be the best phone in this price range.

    • That sounds good. So is it going to release in coming week or two ? Where is $369 RRP ?

      • This mentions the price and in the comments confirms that Motorola told them early September:

It's already in stock at some grey importers but then you have to worry about warranty, 4G bands, etc.

        • Ya.. . i will wait for Aus in-store sale. Won't mind waiting for one more week i guess.

        • @ozyboy:
Aus Stock MotoG is going to be a Vodafone exclusive for a period.
Hopefully that doesn't affect your plans!

        • @scubacoles: So it means no outright or just locked to Vodafone ?

        • @ozyboy:

Don't know the ins and outs as yet.
