Dalwhinnie 15YO Single Malt Whisky 700ml $64 @ 1stChoice ($80 at DM)

130

Part of their whisky promo. Uncle Dan a little slow to move this time to beat their price by their usual pathetic 5cents, still $80 at the time of posting.

Some descriptions from both sites:
With a wholemeal and honey quality to the nose and the odd smoky tangent. A sweet, fruity core and a long round finish. Dalwhinnie has a little bit of everything, peat, honey and backbone. A classic malt for everyone.

Dalwhinnie is the highest of all the distillers in Scotland and place so to take advantage of the cleanest springwater possible. Dalwhinnie has a smokey, floral aroma and a delicate palate of heather and honed malt. A serious Whisky, yet approachable to the beginners.

I'm not a fan of peaty whisky so definitely giving this a go!

Great choice for a novice whisky drinker. It's a good easy drinking single malt without too many challenging flavours, but still interesting enough to savour. These lighter whiskies are great as the weather starts to warm up too.

It's a good example of an excellent value Highland malt. This is one of my "regular" quaffing whiskys. I would go so far as to call it sweet and refreshing.

    • Is it similar to Glen Moray? I'm starting to move towards slightly stronger malts after starting on Glenmorangie (a gift), having Label 5, Glen Moray and Johnnie Red as daily drinkers, and then buying and savouring 2 bottles of 21 yr Highland Park, and now enjoying Johnnie Black, I still enjoy a lighter whisky. This sounds like it's worth a try.

      • @AlisonP : Sorry I had a complete brain fart when writing that. Dalwhinnie is a Northern Highland malt (like Glenmorangie), BUT it shares the characteristics of some good Speyside malts, such as Glenlivet and Balvenie. It also is similar to some Perthshire malts such as Aberfeldy. If you like the Glen Moray, I would recommend you try Glenkinchie, I actually preferred the 10yo to the 12yo, for it's lovely sweetness, but unfortunately the 10yo is no more.

I actually have shares in Woolworths (which owns DM), so thanks in advance :)

seems a little odd to tell people to avoid the store then. Ever thought having 180 stores vs 75 first choice stores may be more accessible to people? You knew that right, being a share holder and all.

Dont know about odd but the people banging on about 5c discounts is the pathetic thing. Dan shouldnt advertise beating prices and just advertise matching then these precious people would have to find something else to bang on about.

Why no comments on the fact other grog stores dont even match prices let alone beat it by 5c…..

Did you buy your shares at a bargain???

      • Lol..all the bashing of DM's price beat policy aside, I still buy from them quite a bit, especially their $10 beer deals
But I am all for creating a more competitive environment where 1st choice (or even better, a 3rd or 4th competitor) will hopefully catch up to DMs eventually and we all benefit from their competition
So I try to buy from the store that provides the "original" offer, in this case 1st choice

    • when i bought this at 1st choice last Friday, DM had it for $63.95.

  • Another one of my favourites to add to the drinks cabinet. I can now have a different malt for each night of the week, on top of other liquors!
