Air Asia seem to be contradicting themselves with this countdown:
        http://www.airasia.com/au/en/book-with-us/airasia-sale-promo…

The time remaining (around 20.5 hours at time of this post) suggests its happening at 2PM AEST

        • Yeh I was just looking at this as well.
I think the free seats sale is only for starting in asian destinations.
I think the link you have posted is a sale for Australians so hopefully the rates will be as cheap as the free seat sales.
If anyone has more info please let me know!

        • @gpablo:
I've looked up the AirAsia Australia page, and it says 2AM AEST 7th September (i.e. in about 2 hours).

I'm only guessing, but I think that countdown might simply be incorrect.

        • @Matt89: Have you managed to find any cheap flights? By the time I add baggage (which is not included in the promo fare) this sale is not worth getting up early for.

Was looking for flights to KL in July but have not found any cheap super flights.

          Stuff it….going back to bed.

        • @FrugalBugger:

I was specifically looking for flights to Bali during school holidays, so wasn't expecting anything amazing. I got flights that were around $80(about 13%) cheaper than what they were prior to the sale. So not an enormous saving, but I thought a 13% saving for school holiday flights was the the best I'd get

Though based on the other post there are plenty of good deals: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210275

        • @Matt89:
I was looking for the free seats on sale where you only pay the tax, but I can't find any. Also you really have to watch out that if you book the promo fair you don't get any luggage allowed except carry on. So if you need to take luggage, and for an international holiday who doesn't, you have to buy the premium flex rate which is +$194 on top of fare.

If anyone finds a "free seat" can you let me know the dates to look for gold coast to KL.

  • I can't remember this deal from past events, does anyone know if they had reasonable flights to Kuala Lumpur included? it seems that you pay to get to KL and then the flight from KL - wherever is "free" (pay tax only)?

Hopefully they don't just jack up the flights to KL to make it seem like a deal :(

    • Last sale I got $120 return to Phuket ex Perth with Fly Thru in KL for myself and four freinds - that's a rarity, and 15 minutes later a friend had to pay $280, but that gives you some idea.

Ex Perth you'd expect to be able to get anywhere for $300 return if you do it early, ex other cities I don't know.

      • Ah thanks, its hard to tell how good it will be from Melbourne, as Perth is always much cheaper. Will definitely check it out though.

Have a look below for further explanation

  • Can someone please explain to me what this free offer is?

    • +2

It's an airfare sale - the "seats" are free, so you essentially are just paying all applicable taxes.
For example, and this might help Lunawinter - if you go to Airasia.com now and throw in your destination, you will see the fare, inc taxes.
So you can breakdown what the free seats would equate to.
Melbourne to KL return should be $127.27…however those fares will be very limited

      • Thanks for the explanation :)

  • I am excite

  • Anyone know if this is available for intra asia flights?
Singapore to siem reap in particular?

  • Any idea when the fly time is?

      From take off to landing.

      Hopefully.

      • ha ha, I mean when are the flights available to travel? Thanks for the laugh though.
