Drift Stealth 2 Action Cam $189.99 ($139.96 off) @ Pushys

30

For those that don't want a box-like GoPro on their head. DRIFT makes some pretty well reviewed bullet-style action cams, with some pretty interesting features. Such as weatherproofness without a case, very good battery life, remote controls (optional extra for this model), "tagging"/looping function & rotating lenses.

Although the Stealth 2 doesn't have the image quality of Drift's top model, the Ghost S (or of a GoPro 4 for that matter), it's much cheaper & much 45% smaller, at only 97g.

Specs are,

  • Supports 1080p30, 720p60 + Slow Motion
  • Capture 12MP Photos, plus timelapse & photoburst
  • Wide 135° Field-of-View Lens
  • Camera Water and Shock Resistant
  • Wi-Fi for Remote Monitoring and Control (via phone)
  • Time Lapse and Burst Photo Modes
  • Lens Rotates up to 300°
  • Optional Two-way Remote Control wristband & Underwater Housing (to 40m)
  • Multi-Colored LED Status Display

I bought this a few weeks ago, mainly for it's bullet design, the cool colour-coded remote control & the tagging feature (which constantly records, but only saves what you want to the micro SD). I bought it from B & H for around the same price as above. It's currently $109 USD ($90 USD off) plus $14.50 USD shipping, which comes to a total of ~$180 AUD, so much of a muchness with Pushys.

  • looks like a pretty good deal compared to something like a gopro or fly12.
However you can't beat the Xiaomi Yi action camera for value and quality.
about $90 AUD for a camera that can do 2K30 or 1080p60 at > 35 mbps.

    • The Xiaomi doesn't work with my iPhone (only Android) and plus I reckon the bullet design helps reduce wind noise and provide more aerodynamics.

Yeah, image quality won't be absolutely top quality. But I'll be mainly using it strapped to goggles while snowboarding & snowmobiling, so I think a bullet design will be the way to go. Plus with the remote control I won't have to fiddle with the cam, to start & stop recording. The remote is colour coded, so you know what's happening. Turn the camera on with the "tag" function, go riding & after something cool has happened press tag to capture it. Only problem is it's a non-removable internal battery, so will only be able to capture a morning's worth of riding before recharging.

        • I've a Xiaomi Yi and a Xiaomi Bluetooth button… if I were to use it snowboarding etc, you could have the button in your pocket and just record/stop etc as you go.

One downside with the Yi is the battery life.
Probably only good for 45 minutes recording - but thankfully the batteries are only $5.

Wouldn't be super keen on this cameras resolution though - it's half the res of the Yi @ 30fps at twice the price.. :o
And Xiaomi are a massive company with good support and constant updates…

      • The Yi works fine with the iPhone… ? Tried and tested.

Xiaomi support iOS pretty well despite being aimed primarily at Android devices.

      • works fine on my android phones

  • I personally like the Contour Roam 3. I've seen a friend's CR3 and it is so easy to use, great quality and has loads of mounts & features. Sells for around the $200 mark.

  • I want the non s ghost model is this the same?

    • +1

What do you mean exactly? For the Ghosts, the original was the Ghost HD, the newer model is the Ghost S. Newer still is the Stealth 2. It's much smaller (& cheaper) than the Ghost S, but this has resulted in some compromises. Such as lower maximum image resolutions, low-light image quality, no live view LED screen, a non-removable battery & the 2-way remote contol (which is included with the Ghost S) in now an optional extra.
