Undocumented REPCO Special. Air Filter + Oil Filter + Castrol GTX Oil $34.95 (Save ~ $40)

190

I went in to Repco and got a $50 air filter. I was about to change my oil so I got a filter. The lady at the counter said 'the oil filter and oil special is only $20' (which is what I linked to). It was not quite the right grade oil, but I thought - ah old car, close enough. She scanned it in and it came up as a combo special for $34.95 the lot! Even she was surprised. Much cheaper than the air filter alone.

The filters were both repco banded. Oh and I showed my mum's RACV member card, not sure if that helped.

Anyway, I was very happy. I hope it works for you too. It may expire today or it might keep going.

    How old?

2002 Daewoo 3 cylinder 700cc engine. One bottle does 2 services.

      • wow that sounds like half a car

depending on your car, you may save… eg. my car uses a $12 filter and i can generally use a 10w30 or 15w40 which is about a $20 mineral oil?

but anyone here would stock up on oil when its cheap

        • I went from an XR6 to a Daewoo Matiz. I only needed an economical run about for work and the XR6 had a habit of going sideways around corners. The Daewoo is actually more fun to drive. My wife has it now, but I always have a smile when I drive it.

  • Was this "3 way combo" for any oil and air filter or just one particular model ?

    • The oil filter was for a Honda CRV the Air filter was for Daewoo Matiz, so I'm guessing any model will do.

Ahh. So nice owning an electric car :)

    • +3

We can buy an awful lot of oil and filters for the extra you paid for an electric car…

      • if its $35k Nissan Leaf its probably not as fancy as you'd expect

        • +2

Exactly, it's around a $10k-$15k premium over an equivalent petrol car. I'd want it to be very nice to own to justify that.

      • +1

And the extra the environment pays, eventual battery disposal.

        • Cause there are no environmental costs to dig up fossilised carbon….

        • +3

@yoyomablue: if you charge your electric car from the power grid in Australia particularly Viictoria (but not Tasmania), you're probably producing more carbon emissions and burning more fossil fuel than a standard petrol car…

          http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/petrol-cars-greener-than-…

Unless you have your own solar/wind/hydro plant, better to stick with petrol (or bettet Hybrid).

        • @braddsey:
Incorrect and an ongoing propagated myth
Renewable energy was available off the grid since last century

        • @yoyomablue: I would disagree it's a propaganda myth… The articles I've looked at aren't debunking electric cars, only electric cars in countries / locations where electricity is generated mostly from coal - hence my exclusion of Tassie where they get their power from hydro. I also noted that if you have your own solar plant then you're all set for Green Electric car benefits.

There are renewable energy plans from the energy companies - but this doesn't mean you're getting renewable energy to your home. You're getting the same coal powered energy as everyone else, but a portion of your tariff is going towards renewable energy.

        • @braddsey: "YOU'RE GETTING THE SAME COAL POWERED ENERGY AS EVERYONE ELSE, but a portion of your tariff is going towards renewable energy." So you admit that there is renewable energy, but contradict it by saying no-one gets it (CAPITALISED).
"Repeat the lie often enough & eventually the people will believe you"… (the Liberal Party motto)
I prefer to rephrase that slogan "Repeat the lie often enough & eventually the SIMPLETONS will believe you"

        • @yoyomablue: no that's not what I said. About 85% of Australia's energy comes from fossil fuel (coal & natural gas)… leaving 15% from renewable sources. That's Australian averages… but in Victoria most of the energy comes from brown coal - recognised as the dirtiest burning coal.

So to clarify what I said earlier (before you chose to shout it back): You can get renewable energy plans from the energy companies. Depending on where you live you may be lucky enough to get your energy from a renewable energy source if you're part of the lucky 15%, in which case an electric car makes sense to you (like those in tassie who have 100% hydro power, or those services by the snowy river hydro plant). For the other 85% of the population they can pay for all the green energy they want - but they're still getting energy from a non-renewable source so they are better off with a regular petrol or hybrid car than an electric car.

Please don't shout at me again, it's unneccesary and also one of the tactics used by the Liberal party over the years. Along with denying what others say without providing any supporting evidence or discussion points.

        • @braddsey:
          1) Think tank & blog sites do not even come close to equaling peer reviewed studies published in reputable scientific journals
          2) Current technology doesn't allow the funnelling of electrons through the grid to specific locations. Someone who has been paying for renewable energy may well be getting electrons that were excited from renewable energy sources, for which consumers can pay for 100%
          3) Renewable energy also comes from 'rooftop' solar & wind fed into the grid aside from that directly used on site, not just large scale sources.
          4) There is also a thing known as carbon offset - tree planting to offset carbon emissions, to have a estimated net zero emission 'equation'

    • Oddly enough I have thought about electric converting the Daweoo. Take off would be rocket like in such a light car!

    • +3

      That's a lot of Eneloops

  • +3

Hyundai Excell Racing Team would love this

  • good deal, but still very average in price.

  • -1

if the oil is of the wrong grade and not recommended, then it is very possible that you could serious f(*k your engine (or half an engine as others have said)

    not a deal IMO

    • The air filter was $50 alone. If I threw the oil and oil filter in the bin I would still be way in front. How is that not a deal?? A $5 ream of paper at $3.50 is considered a deal. The is just scaled x 10 or better. Deal IMO. Oh and the oil grade is 15/40 rather than 10/40, but I have a heap of good oil anyway for it from another deal. I plan on using this cheap oil for other jobs. Maybe make 2 stroke for the lawn mower…

  • +4

Only if Repco's website could be as good as Rockauto.com or at least something like SCA… won't bother driving to the shop when not knowing what the prices are going to be like. I've been pleasantly suprised a couple of times however, 9/10 in Repco the prices are 20% more than the competition, so not normally bother going at all…

    • Repco's oil filters are always way cheaper than SCA for my car anyway. SCA dont make their own brand for my model, Repco do. It's about $15 for the filter at SCA and about $5 at Repco on non-sale days.

  • Was the air filter for the Daewoo? Are you sure it was originally $50, cause I wouldn't expect so, but if it is I might duck into Repco!

Any chance of a scan/photo of the receipt in case the local repco have no idea about the 3 way special?

    • My wife 'tidied' my car. The receipt was on the front seat. Heavens knows where it is now. I'll keep an eye out for it. The lady looked the air filter up first and it was something like $49 something with RACV member discount for the repco brand.

  • I would have done this deal, if it had better oil.

    • If you have a common car (as in lots of them) then the oil might be a deal breaker. For me both filters are pretty expensive as they are uncommon so the oil is disposable and it's still a great price.

      • +1

I think they're having a lend of you mate. Looked up your car on the ryco site and the air filter for it costs $25 at supercheap and under $20 for the wesfil one.
