50% off Food for 35+ Restaurants, Free 'Signature' Dishes + More @ Dimmi [SYD, MEL]

630

First time posting, so sorry for any mistakes!

The restaurant booking website is offering 50% off food bills for 35+ restaurants, approximately 25 in Sydney and 10 in Melbourne. Normally they offer 50% off two restaurants in each city per week, but this week is special. Have a scroll through the restaurants - most are good but some are quite high priced or don't have a great review. Note also that 50% off can be only booked on certain days depending on the restaurant.

Secondly, Dimmi is also offering free 'signature' dishes at certain restaurants. Click 'Compliments Of The Chef: SIGNATURE DISH' on the right hand side to find out more information. Unfortunately I'm not sure if there is a min spend or some T&C's, however looking at it, it seems you can just book it without min spend.

Thirdly, they are also offering $29 'express' lunches, however you can be the judge as to whether that's a true bargain or not.

PS. You can sign up and accrue 'points' for every time you dine (and review) - 4 bookings + reviews gets you a $50 voucher (no min spend) to use at selected restaurants.

EDIT: Dates are 11th September to 27th September
EDIT 2: You cannot receive points from Flash specials from 1 August 2015. Thanks @spk

    Shame QLD misses out

    • +1

They use to have specials for QLD, but in the last 2 weeks they have disappeared :(

      • +2

it's not every week but that's fine. I've used them so many times this yr already for he flash sale. Infant we just went to Pete Evans Asana tonight using Dimmi's flash sale from a few weeks ago. My new favourite restaurant. The food is amazing and the service.

Watch out - their dodgy points system might not easily show a validity, but any accrued points expire in 12 months.

    • Wow, that is rather sneaky. I was just looking at the website the other day and couldn't work out when my points expired. Thanks for the heads up.

    • I regularly book through dimmi… I don't even know what the points are even usedfor!

8000 points redeems for $50 spend (excl drinks) at a redeemable restaurant (no min spend). I've used it multiple times, because I used to regularly accrue Dimmi points just from eating out a lot. The list of redeemable restaurants changes, but I've had great $50 off for places like Otto (twice), Bishop Sessa, Civilian Bar & Dining (will go there again), Foveaux St Dining (been there multiple times) and Chinta Ria. I've also used it for Claire's Kitchen and Abode Bistro, but wouldn't really recommend them.

For some places like Chinta Ria, you can use the $50 to pay for a whole dinner for two, without paying more. But the other restaurants, you'll probably end up paying some money, but hey $50 off is pretty good.

ALSO, some restaurants let you use the $50 on existing special (ie. stack the voucher with a deal). Check beforehand - e.g. Bishop Sessa let me use the $50 on their $49 Mon dinner special, but George's Mediterraean wouldn't let me use the $50 on their discount mussels night.

        • Agreed that redeeming at Bishop sessa would be a great use of dimmi points. Otto is too expensive for what you get and favoux street is good and maybe worth checking if you can stack the entertainment book discount with it, which would make it great value

    • how's it dodgy? i've redeemed $250 worth of vouchers. I love how you are not locked into anything. It's just a reservations website and you can cancel easily too. The points and vouchers is just a bonus. Dimmi has enabled us to try out new restaurants and affordable fine dining.

In Brisbane the list of restaurants to redeem the vouchers has increased which is awesome. We recently redeemed for Mecca Bah. Free meal can't complain.

  • Great deal, thanks for sharing!

I guess free food is free food i you already plan to go to these restaurants, but I was hoping "signature" meant the real signature main dish that define the restaurant and not a random entree or dessert on the cheap list.

Not particularly sure about the restaurant list in 50% off either. Kobe Jones being on the list threw me off a bit as it is basically a restaurant you only go to with stuff like red balloon vouchers and groupon deals.

For the $29 express lunch, Pastuso is definitely a must try for people who are a bit more adventurous with food.

  • Any recommendations for Sydney? I went to Aegean Blu the other week for 50% off… it wasn't very good.

    • how did you get 50% off ?

      • There was a dimmi 50% deal the other week… er maybe 3 weeks ago now. Don't bother with Aegean Blu, it's not good.

    • Yeah agreed. I went to Aegean Blu on like a Groupon and it wasn't that great.

From the 50% off list, I have been and would recommend Riley St Garage, Cala Luna, Sicilian Parramatta and Essen Restaurant. The first two are more trendy, with Cala Luna being the most fancy. I did a blog post on Cala Luna that might give you an idea of what it was like: http://www.afoodfable.com/north-shore-2/cala-luna-north-sydn…

  • Dimmi Restaurant Week presents the following complimentary signature dish: Fregola ai Frutti di Mare Fregola is Sardinian pebble shaped pasta woodfired oven toasted, with pasta, cuttlefish, prawns, calamari, mussels, tomato, bottarga crumble Entree portion, 1 per diner when also ordering at least 1 main (offer not available Fri & Sat evenings after 6pm) (Sydney)

I get these deals, occasionally they are pretty good. 50% off at Riley street garage would be my pick. A quality place to eat. I hear good things about pilu, but it's not close to me…

    • +1

Yeah, agree Riley Street Garage is the standout. Unfortunately many of the others are endless Groupon/Scoupon crappy favourites like Kingsleys and Kobe Jobes where you'd have to be an idiot like John Singleton to pay full price…

  • I can't find the terms and conditions for the Free Signature dishes? Some of them look like they don't have any Tc n Cs? (Some Melbourne ones like http://www.dimmi.com.au/restaurant/no-8-by-john-lawson?dealC…)

    • You have to check the description. E.g. for Vine Double Bay, it states "Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. Limit one per couple or maximum 3 per table.", so you can see that at least 2 ppl have to dine there. As for Firefly, Neutral Bay, "Please note that in order to redeem this offer you must dine in and order from the share plates menu." - self-explanatory.

On a side note, I'm not sure if many people know this, but you can book pretty much all the restaurants on Dimmi via Qantas as well to instead earn 100 frequent flyer points per diner. This is useful if you, for example, have no use for Dimmi points (none of the redeemable restaurants interest you), are trying to increase FF points, or are booking for a large group (because of the 100 FF pts per diner). This can be quite worthwhile if e.g. you spend $70 for dinner for two people, earn 200 points for booking via Qantas, plus pay for dinner using FF earning card = around 270 pts?

Note, I believe these 50% off etc deals are only available on Dimmi and not Qantas.

    • my friend booked through qantas but we were comparing the offers and she wishes she booked through and now changed over.

    • Actually, I just received an email and the same deals are also on Qantas: http://restaurants.qantas.com.au/links/restaurant-week-2015?…

I'm not sure if you also earn 100 FF points per diner, but it doesn't seem to say anywhere that you don't earn them…

Thanks OP, booked the The Spice Room. :)

It did say that the booking would not earn any Dimmi points.

    • That doesn't sound right. Bookings should earn 1000 points for booking (confirmed once you have shown up) no matter if they're 50% off or full price.

      • +2

Please note that as of the 1st of August 2015, you will no longer receive points for booking or reviewing a Flash Special.

        https://www.dimmi.com.au/registration

        • …..oh no! Man, this is so devastating!

        • +1

@markj: Though it was mentioned that points will not be credited for specials.. I did book one of the restaurant which had 50% specials, posted a review and 1000 points were credited.

        • +1

          @spk: Yay, don't tell anyone!

    • so do you get a mail confirmation, which you need to present for 50% off or the restaurant will automatically honor it if its booked via Dimmi ?

      • The email did state the special booked. Hopefully there won't be any issues on the day.

  • Don't know who put together this list, it's a real mixed bag ranging from mediocre to one of the top restaurants in Sydney.

    • I think it's whoever agrees to participate. 50% off food is too big a commitment from some restaurants and for others fine. Be sure to check the reviews

Thanks for this! I went to Punch Lane Melb (always wanted to try). The person who greeted us knew we were on the deal, when we paid the bill, the amount wasn't deducted, but told them, and they were fine. Got my points for reviewing the restaurant too.

ps. Punch lane has top quality food! delicious and highly recommended!
