  • Looks like it's $80 for shipping from NZ. Do import taxes take the cost of shipping in to account for the $1000 exemption? Would hate to order pedals as well and get GST charged.

    • +2

Pretty sure they look at the total so $1080, which would attract customs duties + GST. Without doing the calcs, should work out to be about $1300. Still a good deal.

      Would say so according to

      https://www.ecustomsbroker.com.au/faqs/#faq101

HOW IS DUTY AND GST CALCULATED?

Customs Duty is calculated as a percentage of the Customs Value (CV) of the imported goods. Depending on the product, the applicable duty rate can be anywhere from 0% to 10%, however the majority of goods attract a 5% duty rate.

Customs GST is calculated at 10% of the Value of the Taxable Import (VoTI). The VoTI is calculated by the addition of the Customs Value (CV)
PLUS the Duty PLUS the value of the International Transport and Insurance (T&I).

An example of how the duty and GST is calculated on goods valued at A$1000 which attract a 5% duty rate would be:

If the value (CV) of imported Goods = $1,000.00
Then the Customs duty @ 5% of the $1,000 (CV) = $50.00 (Payable)
If the international transport and insurance (T&I) = $150.00
      Then the VoTI = (CV) + duty + (T&I) = $1,200.00
      GST = 10% of the VoTI = 10% x $1,200 = $120.00 (Payable)
Therefore the total duty and GST payable = $170.00

  • Where does it say its coming from NZ?

    • Shipping tab:

Shipments sent outside NZ are sold exclusive of GST and may be subject to import duties and taxes, which may be levied once your shipment reaches your country.

But would be worth confirming it with them if you're going to buy, looks like it will make a big difference.

    • "Shipments sent outside NZ are sold exclusive of GST and may be subject to import duties and taxes, which may be levied once your shipment reaches your country." On the shipping tab.

Although most of the tab talks about Australian shipping, it is a little confusing why they would throw that line above in.

Not entirely sure where the stock is actually located though, I couldn't find that

Wow this is great buying for a 105 11 speed cyclo cross from a reputable brand. Group alone is worth $500 so it's great value.

  • Crappy brakes on it though I guess you could upgrade to better ones later.

    • bb7s are probably one of the best cable brakes out there

  • Great price. No 58's so no good for me. Contacted T7 to confirm no 58's

    • They run pretty small. I ride a 56 roady and test rode a 52 in the X-fire (model up) which fit me just fine. Check the geometry to see if a 56 (or even 54) would fit if you haven't already.

And by run small I mean to say run big

  • front wheel is quick release, very old now. New standard set by shimano for disc brake on road bikes are thru axle

    • Don't think you'll find many thru axles at this price point

      • Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention to disc brake wheel tech.
What's the advantage of thru-axle over QR?

        • Not much advantage for a rigid fork like this, through axles are really beneficial for suspension forks as they provide extra clamping between the L/R sliders. Have never seen a through axle rigid fork myself (and I see a lot of bikes)

        • @Snuffleophegus: Ahh, right, that makes sense.
But I think i've got through axle on my commuter: http://www.theedgeoutdoors.com/product/scott-sub-10-180820-1…

        • Google tells me that the Scott Sub10 uses a Formula CL51 hub, which is 9mm QR, not through axle. Maybe you have a TA on the back?

        • @Snuffleophegus: Oh yeah. I see now. Front hub has a hollow axle, but has a bolt instead of a skewer. Rear axle is internal hub gear, so i guess it's neither.

        • you will have more option to buy wheels in the future as QR wheels with disc will be going out of fashion

  • I came so close to buying this yesterday, but decided my next CX bike doesn't need double-chainring, so it's just wasted tech/weight/money.

  • Was going to post this, but the GST issue put me off. Looks like a good buy for an all weather decent setup

  • Great Deal!

I'd be all over this if I didn't already have a aluminium framed, 105 level, disc braked CX commuter…..

There are so many conflicting informations regarding gst threshold. Whirlpool thread and priceusa say if the goods value below $1000 (exclude shipping) then NO GST. Otherwise GST applies but it will be calculated against the sum of goods value + applicable duty + shipping & insurance.

    Can someone confirm?

    • +2

Well, I just called customs at 1300 363 263 (importing goods section), it is pretty clear from them that the $1000 GST threshold applies on goods value only (exclude shipping).

A warning from them - some seller might combine cost + shipping into one invoice total. Since customs will be basing this on their calculation then the total may attract GST. However you can send dispute if you can clearly show the goods value alone is below threshold.

Thanks for confirming. Too bad the price has gone back up to $1,609.99 (price error?).
I was about to bite the bullet and it's sitting in my cart for $999, but I did some research on sizes for Ridley bikes and even the smallest 52cm would be too big for me eventhough I ride a 54cm roadie. The standover height would be too high considering I would use the mainly as for commuting.

  • Hi All - if anyone in Melbourne has bought a 48cm or even a 50cm and does not want it then I would happily take it off their hands. If so then just respond to this post.
