HIF $50 BONUS EFTPOS Card for Joining, Any Extras and/or Hospital Policy (Health Insurance)

130
HIFOZ50

Hey guys,

I was able to get an Ozbargain exclusive code that doesn't expire.

Just use the code HIFOZ50 when signing up to any new policy from HIF. There will be a coupon box you enter this into when signing up. This will let HIF know to send you a $50 EFTPOS card in the mail along with your shiny new solid plastic membership card.

I've been with HIF since May(for extras) 2015 I get pretty much everything back for dental checkups with x-rays, I did extensive research and found that HIF seemed to be the best cover for dental.

The customer service is absolutely second to none. They are a little busy but only because they have extremely well trained staff and are one of the best, they also had the lowest price increase this year out of all the funds so people are flocking to them! They are completely not-for-profit (no shareholders) so everything goes back to the members with cash reserves to ensure they can payout on claims.

Feel free to use my referral details (I get a $70 EFTPOS card for each new referral) :)

  • hey guys, the offer has now been extended to 31st december using the same promo code!

    • DEC50 :) , I've sent you a message too

  • Hey guys, I have been able to secure a code that will get you a $50 gift card, ozbargain exclusive and it doesn't have an expiry date!

    • and what is that as I'm thinking of getting extras

  • I coincidentally joined these guys last night. Didn't check ozbargain for some reason. Anyway they were able to retrospectively apply the code so a good experience already assuming the card shows up. Sorry I did miss the chance to refer but thank you.

After a lot of research hif seem to be one of the best providers on the market particularly because they waive excess for day surgery.

    • No worries, at least you will get the $50 code :), I found them amazing for dental, I went to the dentist for a checkup and clean with the fluoride treatment and it came to $235, I got $200 back so I only paid $35!

      • Just writing back to sayI received my eftpos card.

  • Thanks strikerzebra. I used the code HIFOZ50 to sign up. Hopefully I will get $50 gift card. Also I provided your referral details :)

    • Awesome , thanks mate! Please let me know if you have any further questions .

  • I notice that this company is headquartered in Perth - an NO, I am not casting aspersions on our WA friends!

Any comments re service, problems with doctors or hospitals?

I live in Vic and sick of being ripped off by Medibank. I have been too lazy to change up till now, but as I am retired and on the pension with a bit of super to top up, I need to reduce all my costs where possible. But I don't want to be without Health Insurance - just in case. At my age, health risks increase, and I am not yet ready to fully trust the public system.

Medibank scares me sxxtless with their constant fights with hospitals, removing things they will cover etc, and massive price hikes, even though they are the biggest and have economies of scale.

HIF rates seem reasonable for what I need, though they include Maternity which I don't need. Up till now I have not spent a lot on extras, two or three visits to the dentist, glasses once every couple of years etc. So I could probably drop them, as the rate of return is too low.

    • I am yet to use HIF for hospital cover but I can comment on their customer service and so far they have been great when I've called through , I've only used HIF with minor dental a few times, last time I went to the dentist it was $200 and MY GAP was only $20. The big companies such as bupa and Medibank seem to have bigger price increases and also lower limits for a strange reason when they should have economies of scale .

      • Thanks for the information.

I am just a little unsure as it is a fund I have never heard of until now.

Just checking on the privatehealth.gov.au website, I see they cover all states, and have agreements with hospitals and day clinics around me, including the private hospital closest to me, which my doctor has admitting rights.

So I guess I should give this a go. I will phone them tomorrow for a chat.

        • No worries mate, if you have any further questions let me know, feel free to use my referral details if you decide to sign up, cheers

  • Nice one.. called and purchased a 12 month upfront plan and saved like 4% and also $50 voucher. Thx op :)

    • No worries, if you don't get your $50 gift card after about 4 weeks give them a call to follow up.

      • +1

Yeah I've diary logged it to follow up :)

        • Yep sometimes the gift card slips through the cracks but they always send it out once you let them know.

        • @strikerzebra:

Forgot to mention the sales rep had no idea what this code was, they said they would apply the 'facebook $50 promo'.

        • @ezza:

That's weird, I'll contact them as HIF provided me with that code.

  • I've just received confirmation the code is definitely still valid, must have just been 1 staff member who was not aware.

    • Do you get any benefit as a referrer if we provide your info?

      • +1

Yes I get a gift card if you use my referral details and you also do to if you use the code HIFOZ50 :)

  • I'm looking to get extras what do most of you have its more for dental I was thinking of saver or special.

What code works to get the $50 card and this referral thing whats that about? can I gain from that thanks.

    • hey mate I'm on the special options only which was about $390 for the year but that covers major dental, I recently got a crown and they covered about $670 which was the highest out of all the insurers, send me a pm and we can work out a referral commission rate

  • Im still considering joining these guys has anyone used this code to get $50 back recently? What's the expire date on it as i dont see this anywhere else. i see they have a Facebook code but ends today.

    • I was advised that this code has no expiree date, I will confirm and get back to you

  • In regards to hif what do they class as general dental and major dental whats covered under both?

Do fancy day taking out special extras to wait a year just for major if fillings are under major i have no idea what i and wife needs in regards to fillings but if most or all under general then great.

I may have asked already but is the limited the offer per year per person.

    • I've had a look and I don't think they list the dental items that fall under limited each year.

If you didn't want major dental you can go for Saver options which is cheaper and covers you for fillings, cleans, checkups etc just not major dental.

If you believe you might need major work done you can sign up for at least special options, wait a year and then make a claim which is what I did on my crown.

I got reimbursed for $660 for a crown.

      • I was looking at saver but then noticed no major ok I'm not really old about middle aged and I not really been looking after my teeth like I should have. Or been to a dentist in at least 6 yrs used to go every 6 month. I tend to go only if I need something. But right now I feel that things may get worse if I don't get checked over or at least fix any fillings that may need done or are required now.
I have a few fillings from over the years.
Yes no pain or issues that needs me to see a dentist but I have 2 crowns from about 6 yrs ago maybe so unless they have a limited life span or the break or something then might need work done.
But I have no idea what's going on in there and thought should I get with major which is next level up special.
But when I look up general it says minor fillings and major can be major fillings what do they class a filling as general or major lol for all I know my fillings could all be classed as major which means I need to wait 12 months.

Why did you wait for a year to get crown ok you had the 12 months wait but surely you used it for something else during that year?
Otherwise is that not a waste of one years insurance having got nothing done?
Or does that go against you for that following year?

I can understand you getting special extras knowing you had to get crown but I have no idea what I need and either does wife.
Not only that it will always be a 12 months wait whenever you want major so why not start now.
This is all mainly for myself and wife dental but at least kids be cover too if need be.

That's not bad you paying $30 out of the $230.

But it just puzzles me they list limited, unlimited and yearly amount.

It be great if it covers all I need and my wife's needs and still left over for a check up etc 6 months later as just on that alone taking into account there will be both of us requiring work done it pay for itself.

Yes I may need to ask questions regarding the limits etc

        • Well… simply what I did was get the special extras and they normally wave all the 2 month waiting periods and then you can go to the dentist and they can check you out, then they may say you need a crown or a root canal etc… then you have to wait 1 year from when you originally signed up to be able to claim on anything major dental.

Yeh I didn't go to the dentist for a few years then bam I needed a root canal so it normally is better to see the dentist every 6 months or so.

Up to you but going to the special seemed like the best value for money as they also covered you for major dental while the step below which you only save like $100 a year doesn't cover for anything major.

If you don't need to claim for anything major I'm sure you can just downgrade to the lower level.

I'm not sure why they have limited, unlimited and yearly but most insurers have a similar thing so it's always best to ask them the finer questions first.

        • @strikerzebra:

For a family one it's like $310 more from saver to special extras but weird thing it's same price for couple as in $310 price difference and also overall price this is paying for the year.

Single option like yourself seems not as much around $156 I think difference from saver to special for the year, so looks to have gone up a bit since you got it if your saying $100 between them.

But that's how much more I be for getting extras on special around $310 sounds a lot but that's for family.
Wife and I will need most of the dental daughter of just turning for had a check up all good and son 6 months count him out.

But you need to factor other things in on the family like having kids on ambo too where as if we just got a single policy each or couple then it not cover kids for ambo

  • When it comes to limited and unlimited say i went for special extras now i think it gives you $1000 for that year.

Whats classed as limited when getting dental done through hif?

And same goes for unlimited as it says you can claim on unlimited items as many times as you want, what are these with hif?

I have no idea what wife and i will require yet could be a few filling.

  • And i cant understand why it says $1000:annual limit per person but general limit $800 and general unlimited no limit?

I suppose as its a family cover wife and i i think will be ahead on what we pay for vover vs what we get done.
But im confused on what im getting back from them.
If wife claims limit for the year and myself also they we are ahead right vs not having any cover.
And we might be able to take the good of the glasses for wife myself who needs to get eye test and daugher who recently had eye test and needs.

    • For the specific query's it's best to give them a call, I have the special options and for minor dental procedures you get pretty much everything back, I went to the dentist and the bill was $230 for a clean, checkup and a filling and they reimbursed me for $200

  • My last payment for ambo was $92 for the year for three of us,that reminds me not told them about Bub but I noticed this is due to renew on the 11th sept or thereabouts not sure what to do with that.
If I did get extras with hif then it's a 2 month waiting until I'm covered but I have less than this left before my bupa is due leaving me a good half a month without any ambo cover if I sign up say tomorrow?
If they waived then be be ok

    • You could possibly renew with Bupa and then cancel when your HIF cover waiting period is done, assuming bupa will refund the remaining period and not charge a cancellation fee?

      • +1

Don't think so last year was $92 just for ambo if they take that and I get hif can't see me getting it all back from bupa

        • Or you take out a seperate ambulance cover for that period that you aren't covered for

  • Unless I'm looking at hif wrong but on what I can see there dental cover is not that great most stuff is under dental limited? Like examination, X-rays,etc

But then I think fillings are under dental unlimited? Which would be good but stuff like examination,X-ray should be also there seems to be more stuff under limited than unlimited meaning it eats into your limited fund.

A dental told me you want something with good unlimited dental is hif good for that?

As unlimited means it does not affect your allowed limits??

    • Hey mate,

you have to remember you are probably only going to the dentist like twice a yeAr, all I can say is when I go the dentist and have a checkup, clean, filling they cover about 90%, on the questions in regards to the limits,
Hopefully HIF can explain it a bit better.

  • Just reviewed my dental claims and I've got $950 reimbursed over 2 years and paid approximately $750 for the membership, with dental alone i'm $250 ahead!

  • This deal is still going strong , had a checkup, clean and also fluoride treatment and it was $230 and was reimbursed for $200!
