Monteith's Golden Lager 6 Pack - $10 (Normally $18.49) - Dan Murphy's Membership Required

370

Believe this beer wasn't the part of initial monthly offer advertised on 1/9. Seems like just added to the list

Monteith's naturally malted Golden lager has a fresh natural yeastiness in the aroma and a smooth malty character. There are just enough hops for a crispness that makes it a really refreshing beer. Enjoy the smooth rounded cashew nut flavour that is coaxed from premium Munich Malts.

After try the Monteiths Southern pale ale and the pale ale, I dont think Ill buy another pack of monteiths ever. No flavour, no body, tasteless beer.

HOwever, At least the reviews of this one is better.

    • I thought they both had an odd nutty flavour. They weren't very enjoyable, anyway.

      • +1

I thought that the pale was ok (I still preferred the gage roads from last month), but the southern was piss.
Monteiths black beer is nice also, shame its not in the deal.

        • +3

I'm with you, the pale ale was drinkable, but the other is filth. I will be handing these out to guests. Well the ones I don't like anyway

          @Goldberg:
Rofl, yeah I palmed the 5 I had left off at a bbq yesterday.

        • +1

Definitely, Monteiths make some good beer. But the Southern was particularly unenjoyable.

        • @Majosha:

But the Southern was particularly unenjoyable.

Why do they make it then?

Surely that have experts that test these out before they decide to sell them…

        • @Majosha: Yeah, I found something about that particularly objectionable.

    • i tried the Southern Pale Ale last week, and my first one i didn't mind too much (i hadn't had a beer all week and had just ridden my bike ~25k's at the time though).

the second one i had… it tasted like they'd tried to fake the flavour of fruity hops. like they'd put cordial or juice or some crap in to compensate for the lack of hop flavour.

crap beer, and i will continue to steer clear of monteith's.

  • monteith's summer ale is a nice summer beer

Monteiths southern pale ale I had the worst headache ever the next day wow it might taste alright but look out for the headache the next day, must have to much shit in it never again and I am a beer monster, uuum beer 🍺

Interesting, I had 4 last night (and a few others) and woke up a bit sore today!

  • Had this yesterday. Just ok but there is nothing that beats it at $10.

      Hop thief beats it…

        White rabbit too.
When will we see some IPAs in my dans?

        • White rabbit too.

          That hasn't been $10 per 6-pack though…

          OMG

Where was I that day ????

        • @jv: damn missed it too.

        • @jv: You were using your other account.

        • @Thrift:

You were using your other account.

Nope, I would have bought it…

      • Forgot to mention “Right now“.

Interesting, I thought both the Pointers and Southern were below par, but I thought the Pointers was worse than the Southern. Neither was a patch on the
    Gage Rd.

    • +1

I renamed Gage rd to Gag rd. I found the taste to be unpleasant.

      • I find Gage IPA quite good, maybe you talking about Atomic Ale ?

        • yeah, the Atomic Ale. disappointing.

    • the Pointers tasted like cheap piss mixed with literal piss to me

  • +2

Should add that this is for a 6 pack in the title

  • Heh, I preferred the Southern PA to the other one by far. Very easy to drink with a fairly robust, if light (i.e. it disappeared down your throat rather than filled the nostrils and swamped your tongue in the way a solid stout might) flavour. Was disappointed it sold out so damn quick.

I'll give this one a go tomorrow for sure.

  • Not too thrilled with either of the Monteith's deals. Pity given that we like their apple cider. May have to try the Golden Lager given the better reviews.

Monteiths Golden is a great beer, used to be my beer of choice when I lived in NZ, even better when it was on tap.

my beer of choice when I lived in NZ

I thought everyone in NZ drank Steinlager with their fush & chups…

      • +1

Steiny's were ok, Steinlager Pure even better.

      • +1

NZ brewers are doing some great beer these days, and the Australian craft brewers are only just starting to catch up. Brewers like Epic, Tuatara, and 8-Wired have been kicking our arse for years now.

Monteith's kinda suck though. I guess they're like the James Squire of NZ.

        • +2

I disagree. What about Feral Brewing Company…especially their Hop Hog Indian pale ale? East Ninth Brewing Co.'s Doss Blockos (not to mention their awesome ginger beer too). Red Hill? Stone & Wood? There's a lot of good on offer locally, maybe you're not looking hard enough ;).

        • +1

          @Rupture:

Hop Hog is pretty good. Dos Blockos, Red Hill, and Stone & Wood don't even come close to the Kiwi brewers I mentioned.

Kaiju are kicking some arse though, and are probably my fave Oz brewer. Pirate Life Pale Ale is brilliant too. Like I said though, the Kiwi's have been on that level for years now, and we're only just recently catching up.

        • @Fappo:

Agree, was in NZ in July and their craft beers are way ahead of what we have here

  • +2

This was my first ever Monteith's beer http://www.monteiths.co.nz/Beer-And-Cider/Black-Beer and it's still the best they have. Love the rich flavour but they need to make it in a pint or long neck release.

    • +1

      very, very easy to drink.

    • +1

Me too think. It was amazing.

  • This beer is nothing special but for $10.00, it is worth a drink or two.

  • +1

Monteith's black is not a bad drop.

  • +1

Altomic I am with you on the gage road I thought it was average, and more so when I saw the bottle coming out of the fridge, there was heaps of sludge on the bottom. It was like drinking coopers 20 years ago.I thought the yenda was quite nice though

  • I just discovered this Dans promotions last month. Atomic was by far, way better than both Monteiths ( that doesnt taste like a pale ale at all ). I may try the golden one, but I dont expect much.

    • +10

What beer/drink makes you type like that? 😀

  • I may get howled down for this, but I discovered that the Monteiths bottle label is covered by the cardboard six pack. And since all monteiths are capped the same, I had a tasty Monteiths mixed 6 from Dans for an even tastier $10. So that Southern APA turned out useful after all :)

  • +1

The Montheith's stuff isn't terrible, it is just pretty bland and average. I'd never buy it at full price but 6 for $10 isn't terrible.
