Bring Smartphones out of Australia

Hi,

I'm wondering if i can bring more than 3 smartphones (brand new one) out of Australia. How many devices i can take with me when i leave?

  • Depends on what country you are going to and cost of the phones.

But AFAIK no limitations on number of smart phones.

    • I'm going to bring around 8 iphone 6S for my family and friends. I just worries about Australia Border. I'm not sure they allow me to go through or not :(

      • You need not worry about leaving Australia. There is no limit.

        • Don't forget to get your 9% tax back @ TRS in airport. SHOW them your phones. If you go to tax free country like HK, no problem.

Where the hell are you gonna get 8 iPhone 6S from and why would they be cheaper here?

I'd be more concerned about getting into your home country with them if your searched for whatever reason…

Depends on the country. but the best way is to remove the mobile phones from its box and place them on your pockets.

    • lol 3 phones won't look suspicious at all

I'm a bit puzzled by this.

    A. Surely whatever country you're going to sells smartphones for less than Australia!?

    B. Why would there be any kind of limit?

    • Because someone told me that maximum 3 electronic devices per person when you are leaving Australia!
I couldn't find any information on Australia's border website. That's why i posted here, maybe someone have experiences about this situation.

Could that be an airline thing restricting devices with lithium batteries etc.?

        Nope. No such thing.

        I travel with a phone, a iPad, a Laptop, a DS, a camera, and 2 backup batteries.

Who told you 3 devices max??

      Some countries have ridiculous taxes

Believe iPhone 6S have not been released in "that" country yet which profit can be made.
Just call up custom if you want 100% sure,

If you are worried, take out the phones from the box. Check in the empty boxes with your luggage. Spread the phones in your carry ons and pockets. The staff might look at you funny when you have to take them all for scanning but I've never seen any sign that it's illegal or they'll confiscate them.

Definitely confirm you can bring as much OUT of Australia. They will warn you about bringing them back in though if you decide to claim tax on it, because if you bring them back in you should pay the tax again.

My friend took 10 out of the country and claim taxes on it. And i have also seen people carrying a bag full of iphone out of the country.

Its when you bring them in where it may become a problem

    • Thank you so much!
