Canon MB2360 Maxify vs HP Officejet 2620

Hi all,

I've recently bought 2 printers, both from Ozbargain and I am trying to decide which one is better. I intend to refund the other one. My ideal wishlist in a printer:

  • Automatic document feeder
  • Wi-Fi capability
  • Laser colour printer with option of buying cheap (generic) toner
  • Duplex printing AND automatic duplex scanning via ADF
  • Small/compact, not too heavy
  • Option of flatbed scanner as well
  • <$150
  • Fax and copy are not as important, but I understand they come with pretty much all of these

Printer 1: Canon MB2360 Maxify, posted here by Make it so

  • $46.40 ($27.40 more expensive than HP Officejet 2620)
  • 463 x 389 x 320mm (W x D x H)
  • 12.2kg
  • Individual ink tanks (I suppose this is a good thing?)
  • Wi-Fi capable
  • MAXIFY Cloud Link (print straight from social media sites, scan straight as an email)
  • Looks better?
  • Duplex

Printer 2: HP Officejet 2620, posted here by monty.melb

  • $19 (cheaper)
  • No Wi-Fi it seems
  • No duplex printing
  • ADF has 35 sheet capacity
  • 445 x 542 x 237mm (W x D x H) (pulled from official page "Dimensions and weight" section, "Maximum dimensions" as opposed to "Minimum dimensions" - confused)
  • 5.4kg
  • Seems to sometimes be sold at around the same price.. posted again more recently here, here and here - makes me think the $19 price was not THAT special

Note that in my ideal wishlist, ideal is bolded. I understand that I must be realistic, and that it isn't really possible to fulfil that criteria in its entirety. For example, colour toner printers are usually several hundreds of dollars at least, and they are certainly not compact or light.

Based on the breakdown of the 2, it seems the Canon is better.

Just wondering if there were any "printer experts" around here that might be able to share their two cents or experiences with either of these, or even have any other recommendations.

  • No expert though ive heard the cheaper printers usually get you in ink costs.

May be worth looking into the cost per page of each printer :)
