It's an inkjet not laser printer.

    • Noted, changed

      • Description still says laser.

    • Yeah almost going to get one

  • Inkjet

  • should i get it. Its cheap. My printer is a 9 Year old HP officejet 6310 and still going strong

    • +8

I'd say wait for a good deal on laser, that's my plan. Don't do cd printing or photo printing any more!

      (Yay for 4000th comment lol)

9 years? Be loyal to your printer, as it has been to you :)

      Personally I would go laser…

after using a canon multifunction inkjet…

It is annoying when the ink gets clogged from inactive use
then u try to clean it which waste more ink, yet my printer still has clogged lines that is not fixable despite how much deep cleaning I do..

So now I plan to just get a good laser printer from now on.
It will print much faster as well.

      ===
Anyone know know if there is an issues or downside with laser printers?

the downside for inkjet is they get clogged from inactive use..

      • More $$$

        • yeah i guess

but then the good thing is you don't waste all that ink from deep cleaning clogged nozzles

        • @tyler.durden:
After using laser, I would never buy inkjet again.
And you're right about the clogging - don't use an inkjet for a little while and cleaning won't fix the problem. Even then new cartridges might not fix either.
Another advantage of laser over inkjet is its a lot sharper print in colour. Quite noticeable.
I would be interested in the cost comparison per page of ink v laser.

        • @yoyomablue:

          what laser do u have?
          how much for toner?

also does color photo prints look better than inkjet?

I hate my current inkjet canon mp610
it is still clogged even with many deep cleaning..

I tried to take the nozzle out and put it under high pressure water but still not fix the clogged.

        • @tyler.durden:
          Brother 9330CDW (auto duplex)
I get a set of 4 cartridges from an eBay guy in Melbourne for $70 - 2,500 pages black, 2,200 pages colour
          Sorry don't do photo prints

        • @yoyomablue:

Does it need 4 cartridges at one time?

Do u have the ebay link?
Do they take non oem cartridges?

yeah i was just curious it prints color images, cartoons, photos
if they look better or not

        • @tyler.durden:
No you can buy them individually from the same guy & you only change them as they individually get low on toner
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Set-Compatible-TN251-TN255-TN-251…

      • Actually my old HP ink jet has never clogged… must be at least 7 years pld. It sometimes goes months of inactivity too. Been saying for years it is about time we got a new one (it can be slow) but until iy truly kicks the bucket I am kind of at a loss for a good reason to toss it.

  • Can anyone please confirm if this one has auto duplex or not

    • has duplex

      Double Sided Printing: Yes

Not sure what is auto duplex

      • AFAIK, same thing. Duplex means double-sided. Most printers are technically able to print on both sides as sheets should always be able to be fed back through upside down but some printers have a mode/tray or something (like pause) to assist/guide users through the process. This manual duplex is just a gimmick IMO maybe only slightly better then none so you don't have to separate odd/even pages of documents yourself. Auto duplex does the double siding for you and I think, these days, they drop the auto as it is mostly a given. Some devices can also do duplex scanning/copying. Apparently not this one.

        • yes next model up can do duplex scanning

        • I actually prefer the manual duplex, over the auto on my current printer. Hate it when the printer slowly feeds the page back up. Its faster to just print all the odd pages first then flip the pages over.

        • @ko0l: Fair enough. I like the convenience of auto duplex. And, according to specs/reviews this is a pretty fast printer.

damn.. bought it.. first the ego mower now this….you guys are sending me broke, don't need it but its too good to pass up

  • And if you claim it from tax, most of us should get at least $51.35 back from the ATO (32.5% of $158 if you earn above $37k),

claiming $158 is wrong, since you actually paid less for it

    • depend on how much on the invoice. So $158 in this case.

      • yeah, whatever was on the invoice…

      • You claim the invoice, then state the cashback as income.
So effectively you only "claim the tax" on the difference - no free lunch

        • Damn. If cash back more than invoice price I need to pay tax on the cash back income?

    • Not true cashback is separate from invoice. Probably should not claim the 20% but then again you have a tax invoice for the full amount. Can't see a problem

  • For scanning function, can I feed in the document to the top of the machine rather than open the lid and lay down the document? If so, will I be able to scan let's say 5 documents in one go? Thanks.

    • Apparently it has a 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Photos indicate it is accessed by flipping open a tray at the top.

  • is there any ink included?

    • yes

    • Usually a starter cartridge for a few hundred pages or so

    • +2

Actually, was in store at Harvey Norman yesterday and was told that the "starter" ink is marked "starter" as the machine does require some ink to go thru the setup process. The "starter" ink has a drop or two more ink than the regular (not the extra large capacity) to complete this process. So, from what they have been told, after the setup process, you should have the same volume of ink as the regular capacity tank.

Also told that these printer are in competition to laser. ink consumption is excellent V's laser and, better image quality as its inkjet.

Lastly, as i forgot to mention, i also received a box of Canon print paper. Its A4, 80GSM. When i say box, i mean carton with 5 reams —> 1,000 sheets. They said they had some hang over stock from a promotion not long ago.

Ended up getting Good Guys to price match. I was trying for the price beat but no luck.

  • My impulse says yes, but my common sense on headaches with inkjets and CISS tells me to keep using the work printer sparingly until color laser printers drop in price.

    • +1

Color lasers have been cheap for years. But a set of cartridges sets you back ~$400. Color lasers are the new disposables. For low volume colour printing, inkjet may be cheaper. Use a separate $40 laser with cheap aftermarket cartridges for cheap black/white.

      • $400, which printer are talking about?

I am sure u can on ebay for much cheaper

  • No longer available. Right as I was in the midst of purchasing :(

    • +1

This has happened to me before. I ended up calling their head office which from memory i think was in Melbourne.

There was some going back and firth but, ended up getting the price. I did take a screenshot to prove that was going going thru the checkout process.

      Good luck.

      • I can't imagine how you'd be able to get this with all the cashbacks etc.

        But yea missed out too!

        • The lady at the store said it was in catalogue about 3 weeks ago for $200, plus the cashback and bonus paper.

I guess some stores have and some have run out. The paper is ok….for free and all. They had the paper down at $24.95 which is $4.99 per ream.

  • Shame that price/listing is no longer available. I was curious to know from anyone who owns such a device what the print quality is like compared to other/older inkjet printers because this review claims "Business graphics on plain paper are bright and solid, with good registration of overlaid black text. Text pages themselves are clean and not far short of laser quality."

And, whatever does 5PL or 11PL mean, typo? According to this product description "… outstanding quality and exceptional speeds, this stylish inkjet printer features 600 x 1200 dpi resolution and a noteworthy 5PL in colour and 11PL in black, helping to create prints that are crisp, sharp and smudge-free – even when you use a highlighter on them."

The ink cartridges appear to be more expensive (due to being a newish printer I presume) and have a chip unlike the LC57 compatible cartridges available as a full set for as low as below $10 delivered on eBay for my 6 year old Brother MFC still going strong (from admittedly modest/low use). However, the prints don't look very sharp anymore in today's standard.

    • +1

PL should be in lowercase (pl) meaning picolitre, a trillionth (one millionth of a millionth) of a litre. 5pl & 11pl refer to the volumes of a drop of colour & black inks as squirted out by a nozzle.

Cheap laser printer (not a multi-function) but very expensive toners (cheaper to buy a new printer than a set of toners): CWorld - Ricoh SPC250DN Colour Laser Printer (Free Delivery Metro Melb, Syd, Adel) - $97

      • Ah, gotcha, thanks. My old printer specs claim 1.5 picolitre ink droplets so on paper (pun intended :-) its print quality is finer. I guess I'd need to check output for myself. Perhaps at a bricks and mortar store like HN that also stock it at this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209163 but I don't think I'll bother for a product I don't need.

I have just purchased one using this link from the Goodguys EBay

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141759426664

There wasn't any left in the stores near me (Sydney) so had to pay for delivery but still an amazing deal with the cashback

    • Cheers! Looks like they relisted it, but out of stock in most of the Melbourne stores as well so had to go with delivery also.

  • Similiar deal, $10 more expensive

If u include shipping for ebay deal, then it works out the same or close to it

Great to see someone post the deal. I tried posting, and got a warning saying duplicate, so decided to comment instead. Printer is working fine, but warning on the printer driver, you have to install separately, does not come standard in Windows.
