Hello OzBargainers!

Over here at PickPals we're ready for another sale! This time we've got a pretty interesting item for you: A clear practice lock (Spool Pins). With this lock you can directly see the pins you are manipulating and learn how the internals of the lock function and work on improving your feel and technique. The clear practice lock comes with three keys, two cut to match the lock and one blank, these will allow you to see the action of the lock with a real key and a key that doesn't fit.

As with our previous sales, we are also selling the PickPals Introduction set at $20 (20% off our normal price). The PickPals introductory set comes with three picks (a rake, half diamond and a feeler) and two tension wrenches (a sprung wrench and a duel ended euro & standard wrench). You will receive these in a durable leather pouch.

A common question asked is why purchase our picks over the $5 sets manufactured in China. The reason quite simply is quality. Our picks are made of premium SouthOrd steel and are shaped for optimal feedback & efficiency. PickPals was founded once we realised the difficulty and delays in getting good quality lockpicks for a reasonable price in Australia, we stand by the quality of all products we sell and will never provide a product that we wouldn't be happy using.

MOD NOTE FROM PREVIOUS BARGAIN:
Please read the warnings about buying lock picks in Australia. It appears that it is not illegal to buy them in Australia (although you might have problem importing from overseas shops). Owning them is okay as well. However as with carrying them, you need to be either a lock smith, or be able to produce reasonable explanation, i.e. try not to carry them around.

Our note:
We provide these items legally, but you need to be aware of the law governing possession of such items. Our guide (https://www.pickpals.com.au/guide/) links to a document by the Sentencing Council of Victoria which outlines it very well, read from page 17 onwards.

We recommend using these for hobbyist/locksport purposes within your own home only and on locks you legally own but are not in use. Additionally picking your front door lock is not a smart idea as you may damage or break the lock causing extreme inconvenience.

Why is it in the 'gaming' section?

Is lock picking a game now? :)

    • +1

It's a hobby - seeing as you're only allowed to apply it practically in very restricted circumstances.

      • It is a popular hobby, we just follow a few rules to ensure things are legal :)

We support a number of events and lock picking classes, these are run at unis without a problem

  • @silverrat haha well unfortunately there isnt a lock picking section. most of us are into gaming so it seems logical :) Its a sport doesnt that make it a game ;)

Are owning lock picks legal in NSW?

    • Hi @fruit

The document linked in the header post outlines the regulations on a state by state basis. In some states they are illegal, in others only without good reason and in some no legal issues at all.

Its worth finding out what the status is in your state.

In WA it depends on the time of day you're found carrying them! It can be pretty strange :)

    • Hi @aroundme.

These products are already discounted. At this time this is our best offer, we believe its the best in oz.

      :)

  • Nice post pickpals. I was hoping you would do another post soon. Will offer 1 work with offer 3 and general padlocks?

    • Hi @ShipShapeRC

Of course, the intro set as a range of picks to suit different situations. We put this set together ourselves so there are only picks you will use and no fillers.

Padlocks are a great place to start, and you can try the different picks or start by raking the lock :)

      • That sounds great. So would the spool clear lock be not that ideal for a beginner? Would the non-spool version, progressive locks or standard pin cut-away be better? I am a magician, so my interest is primarily for padlocks in escapology however I could see this becoming a bit of a side hobby anyway.

        • Yes the clear lock is probably a better place to start. I really like the progressive locks, this give yous a few locks with different pin configurations, we sell a lot of these.

          Hope this helps :)

        • @pickpals:
Any chance of a discount on the clear lock? The spool is cheaper at the moment.

        • @ShipShapeRC: Hi SSRC
