Cheap last minute Theatre tickets

Where can you find cheap last minute Theatre tickets?

i.e. Lion King etc in Melbourne.

Surely they don't sell out all seats on a Monday night.

Where can you find them cheaper than face value?

If I had to pay full price, I'd go on a Friday or Weekend, but would see some shows on a weekday if it was significantly cheaper.

  • Usually a site such as the one below, but there's none there for The Lion King at the moment.

      Thanks.

There are still plenty of seats (some not cheap mine you) for the Lion King available at Ticketek for a show that starts in 55min (1pm show).

I think the Lion King producers would rather leave it empty than sell it at a discount.

If they always sold tickets before a show at a heavily discounted rate, a lot of people would just wait until then.

        • Very true..

Along that line of thinking, they might also only do it at the door not online. In Sydney at the Capitol Theatre, I have had luck at the box office, showing up less than an hour before the show starts, and the remaining tickets were heavily discounted.

I can't see anything about it on their website, and I didn't quiz the box office, so I don't know what conditions the cheaper tickets are under, but it was possible for Les Mis earlier this year.

That's a good idea to check, but unfortunately don't really want to drag my wife to the city in the off chance I can get a discounted ticket.. haha

    • Thanks for the suggestion, no Lion King.

  • There's one called half priced tix and the office is in the centre of Melbourne that do good deals on tickets at short notice. It's good to get draculas tickets from there

    • No lion king unfortunately, I guess too popular/big a show to offer discounts to the public.

  • Thanks for the URLs people, I have book marked a number of them for future reference.

I went to see Lion King a few years ago but went the alternate route and bought discounted Ticketmaster credit from eBay. Might be able to source a discount that way. Woolworths had a promo a couple of weeks ago, Buy a $50 Ticketmaster gift card, get $10 off your next shop (essentially a 20% discount).

Good idea, will remember if they have the same promo.

I checked eBay, but the prices were more expensive than face value.

Wife wanted to see Ed Sheerin, all tickets to both shows were sold out and I checked at the time of the release.

I ended up buying from a place that sold tickets, but paid 50% over face value. Happy wife, happy life I guess.

      • Ed Sheeran was crazy expensive, it sold out so fast online that they had to do another concert!

Popular/sold out tours are admittedly more expensive on eBay/Gumtree, but for normal events it's cheaper if you can time it right(eg WWE, Big day out, the prodigy etc)
