Free Kopi Luwak Coffee @ World Square Sydney

90

Free lil cup of kopi Luwak coffee
Short black size
Apparently the most expensive coffee in the world..

They've been there since morning, but I didn't realise it was kopi luwak till after lunch, so me & a colleague decided to check it out.
They're promoting The Economist, digital edition for $6 for the 1st month.

After the beans have come out of a Civet Cat's bum I'm not sure I would go there. You brave soul ;)

    • I heard they force feed them as well. Sounds pretty sad if they do.

Not to mention a hit to the quality of the coffee. Essentially any bean they stuff into a civet and come out the other end is being defined as kopi luwak, whereas, in the wild the civets only eat the good fruits they choose to eat.

I can see the Civet cat shaking his head as he is chowing down on Blend 43 beans.

      • same as duck with foie gras in france

        They don't.
I have visited the farms, and volunteered to work with them many times.
Just like a pet they are fed them in bowls or straight off the plant and eat at their leisure.
And when they're let out to scurry around guess what they love to eat!

Like a pet dog, give them a pile of biscuits in a bowl and they'll eat them up, and let them run around a yard where the biscuits grow on trees, guess what it'll eat.

    • Hahah great movie!

there are some opinions out there that its very cruel to the animals http://world.time.com/2013/10/02/the-worlds-most-expensive-c…

    • It is not surprising considering how much demand the producers have to keep up with.

  • had this sh*& before and it tastes exactly like you would think

  • Do they mean The Economist is build the same way? ;)
    Sorry, I just can't see the connection…

This is not the coffee that has been through a Civet cat's digestive system. This freebie is probably just a cheap Arabica branded "Kopi Luwak". If you don't believe me, just ask whoever give that free coffee to confirm the info I just told you.

    • The page literally links to an article on counterfeit Kopi Luwak. I don't know if this has any effect on that actual likelihood that it is legit though.

      • Most likely this is the type of coffee that they give away: http://kopiluwak.id/luwak-arabica/. They can be purchased cheaply from Indonesian grocery stores like the ones in the Eastern suburbs, or Campsie, NSW.
