Car GPS? Advice Needed

Hey guys, I wanted to ask if there's anything I need to know when it comes to choosing a GPS device for a car.
I am looking to get one as a gift for someone, I know little about GPS's.
Are there features that I should look out for? Does it matter what brand I get?

And of course I want to get a good deal if possible.

Any advice would be appreciated. I don't want to get one that will be regretted and unused.

    Navman from eBay
    Great gift for them.
    $50 voucher for you.
    Win,win.

Been done to death on here but I think you will find that most would suggest use the phone which you/they already have and something like here maps.
Cost zero and one less device.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has lifetime map upgrades.

JB HiFi recently had a sale on GPS units - if the sale is still on, the Garmin 2597LMT for about $130-ish is a great buy.

Drats - I just checked, and it's back to $168.

Google Maps or Waze on your phone - both has real time traffic. Car GPS are almost becoming redundant.

    Lumia 520

  • Hmmm…
Thanks for the advice so far.

I don't know if a phone mount will be that nice of a gift.
The eBay link looks nice but the $50 voucher is no longer available.
The Garmin 2597LMT is no longer on sale as noted too.

    I'm re-considering this idea.

  • Lumia 532 is on special at Woolworths this week for under $50. Here maps are rather decent.
