What Is The Best Telstra Pre-Paid Offer (Including Grandfathered Plans) - Encore vs Freedom vs Boost

Now that the new Freedom Plus offer has rolled out last month, I was wondering if my best bet is still to stay on Cap Encore (my gut says yes)… So it occurred to me it might be a good idea to let the Ozbargain community vote on what they think is the best plan. Of course we all have different usage scenarios etc. but I reckon we will still get some interesting insights.

My reasoning goes something like this:
If some of the grand fathered plans (I'm looking at you Encore) are voted highest then no news under the sun, BUT if the new offer gets a large number of votes then this could indicate a change and a vast improvement from Telstra when compared to the past (where basically offers got worse over time).

Anyway, let's see what you guys reckon :-)

PS
Let me know if I missed any good offers Pole can't be changed

Edit:
Also what are your thoughts about Boost Mobile seeing as 4G is coming and $40 gives you 3GB of data (+1GB every sunday) & unlimited calls + texts in Australia for 30 days

  • Really depends if you're doing $30 per month or $40 or more.

    • Yeah? what would be your thoughts for each case?

Well on the $30 Cap Encore vs Freedom Plus it's much of a muchness.

Above that, the $40 Freedom Plus really blows the Cap Encore out of the water.

Interestingly I received a survey from Telstra Pre-Paid today on them considering removing plus packs and the ability to spend credit on the Google Play Store amongst other things.

Needless to say I told them where to stick that idea. Hopefully other respondents do too haha.

Glad you told them what to do with it. The ability to spend credit on the Google Play Store was one of the major draw cards in coming back to Telstra and onto Freedom Plus.

  • I'm on cap encore too, but those freedom plus offers do seem quite good. Being grandfathered means that I currently have a disincentive to leave telstra for a competitor, but if freedom plus is pretty good I might try out Vaya or something to see if the networks are up to scratch.

  • Freedom Plus for credit and data rollover

  • Depends on your usage, but I think Cap Encore is that bit more flexible than the new Freedom Plus.

Yes I'm finding it hard mentally to let go of those plus packs… Saved my a$$ so many times!

What about Boost Mobile seeing as 4G is coming and $40 gives you 3GB of data (+1GB every sunday) & unlimited calls + texts in Australia for 30 days

    • Hmmm, interesting. I am reluctant to change networks, so Boost might be a viable alternative…

  • Any of the Telcos have at various times improved or diluted their options.

-Optus dabbled in free data before reducing $2 days to 500MB
-Vf unpublished favourite packs 350MB; somewhat old to fit emerging apps, anyway.
    Both originals are grandfathered.
Free+ & Data Pass are what is left today (harness the undocumented easter eggs, which can't be beaten;).

Strange the oddest thing, that I cant so much recall a time when -two- or more of these bold options, competed concurrently in our market place?
Suppose those would wait until safe gaps to appear first><.

So I wont relinquish my longstanding 18G per 58 days voice/favo/ flexible plan "$32". This spend might become fractured on a part VF/part Freedom mix. (VF -> $24)

I am approaching a stage where I will have slim patience for much further positioning. The credible options are going to be those that demonstrate consistency against fickle gestures. simple as that.

    • The credible options are going to be those that demonstrate consistency against fickle gestures.

Who cares though? once you're on a good offer thats it

      • Newcomers, outsiders (inside contract), and consumers who aren't Broden form who cares or may eventually care.
I was able to distinguish Freedom Plus in your Poll, against the options, a newcomer and cognisant that Telstra had gone beyond previous efforts to stimulate the consumers. Would look supported by it's userbase yes.

        • I understand why others would care but why would you care is what I meant?

        • @ory_zm:
Sadly, my Cap has not quite evolved to the extent that Encore-Freedom-Freedom+ did has reached. Others in the same boat.
I’d consider FP a supplement and then possibly replace old VF account (high data/low calling/play store $0) as it would now exceed all three. Dual sim mode. I may bring along others, it is prepaid. Naturally, I do not need, nor expect variables to change, in the meantime (last instance, free data VF feature did, disappeared). Yeah it is part of risk.

Wait so the new Freedom PLus still allows the Google Play credits? I was about to update from the old freedom then noticed nothing is mentioned regarding recharge credit

    • I believe so. I also think that if that ever changes it will change for everyone.
