      Actually ATO?!

  • I spoke to an Uber driver in Honolulu and I basically asked him all of these questions.

Roughly how much do you make net and gross
Depends how much you work… As an uber driver you can drive as much or as little as you want. The guy I had would do it depending no how much money he needed, if he wanted to go on a holiday he would just commit to long hours otherwise he just works whenever he wants.. (uber only take 20%, your car needs to be less than 10 years old and it will be checked every year)

per week - he said anywhere from $700-$1200 a week.
    per hr - cant judge..
    per year - varies..

And how much days, hrs do u work per week?
    Whenever you want..

How much is your take home pay after petrol cost and servicing your car cost?
Varies - but in Honolulu he was given a petrol card that he charges all of his petrol to and uber just take those fuel costs out of his pay so that he isnt left out of pocket.

Is the job enjoyable or dangerous?
He loves it, he said he meets so many interesting people.
He said it want dangerous at all, the people that use Uber are generally regular people as opposed to poor crazies.

What's the best and worst parts of the job?
Best part he said was being able to work whenever you want and take time off whenever you want.. he stopped working for 3 months, got back in the car and opened the app and off he went..
He loved it, he didnt mention a bad part.

This is the difference between uber and a taxi, its a variable cost of 20% as opposed to paying a set fee in a taxi and having to work as much as possible to make back that money to eventually make a profit.

    • Thanks..
      700-1200 is not bad,
though if u take out cost of petrol and servicing the car…
      not sure how much

Yeah the hrs is dependant on how much u want to work..
but I was more of asking how much hrs they would need to work to earn $700-1200

So the take home pay of an uberX driver is better than a taxi driver?

Yet the taxi drivers are protesting…

They make $750 per week roughly driving 5 days , working hours .
This is minus all expenses so 750 in hand after the week
How do I know? My friends brother does it

    • By working hrs, do you mean 8 hrs per day, for 5 days?

$750 in hand after expensive is not bad.

Do you think it is better than what a tax driver makes?

Does the friend worry about getting fined?

I think it is still illegal in australia right?

      • Well, that would be $750 before the tax man has had his way with you. Net would be ~$650.

      • Cabbies make sht all. It's all the taxi licences and hence state coffers that take the lion share of what you pay for a cab. Not to mention tax, since taxis collect and pay gst

      • Yes 8 hours per day, he works day shift so roughly 9 to 5.
        Never been fined before
It's not illegal but the taxi commissions is trying to make it illegal because they are arguing the drivers need to pay taxi liscence..
$750 is cash in hand after all fuel, commission to uber roughly 20% is paid.

Stuff uber. Some poor taxi driver didn't buy a house to afford the 250k$ govt licence.
Damn sick of clicking on their ad pop ups too.

    • So?

Someone could have bought a Blockbuster shop and they would have lost money.

Someone could have invested in BHP shares and they would have lost money.

A taxi plate is a speculative investment. Not a money tree.

Suck it up like anyone else who loses when they invest.

  • a taxi plate is a regulatory requirement. Industry needs regulation. Level playing field for all competitors.

  • So sick of uber's damn spamming app. Get out of my face.

  • Avoiding tax. Avoiding gst. Uber making no contribution to anything but their greedy selves. Grubs.
