  • how much would it cost approx to build a high-end computer that complements this cpu?

    • +3

Depends on purpose. What are you going to use it for?

Do note that this is also the 'K' version, means you will be overclocking this.

      • mostly gaming, i do think the i7 is a bit overkill for the intended purpose. i5 should suffice? with a decent graphic card?

        • +2

An i5 is more than enough. Even picking up a Haswell i5 will last you for a number of years, plus you can get much cheaper DDR3 instead of having to go DDR4.

A i5 4690k (can even go the non k version if you don't want to overclock) would be perfect, and putting the extra into a better video card would give you much greater performance.

        • You could go with Haswell i5, but seeing that the price is close, just go with newer Skylake.

          CPU: Intel Core i5 6400 $269
          Mobo: ASRock H170M-Pro4 $155
          RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2133 $86
SSD: Samsung Evo Pro 250GB $139
          GPU: 4GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 $489 / 8GB R9 390(Better with DX12)
Case: (insert your case of choice)
          PSU: Antec VPF-550 $89 (970) / Seasonic G-650 (390)

      • the K i7's come with a noticeable bump in clock-rate now though. So it's no longer just for people wanting to overclock.

I didn't overclock my processor because I only really wanted around 4.0Ghz, and believe it or not last year's devils canyon was intel's first cpu to break into the 4.0ghz speed at stock.

At least $1.5k if you are looking to get decent graphic card.

    • +3

High end is well over $2000 including a monitor.

  • Can someone please tell me of something productive that can be done with this type of high end CPU without the user needing to be present? For example, bitcoin mining?
