  • That's one expensive toothbrush.

  • +3

It's worth it Imo. I find these a lot better than any oral b one.

    • its a toothbrush mun

    • +1

What do you think is better then the oral B ones?

      • Assuming you mean "why" instead of "what".

The reason i found when i did research prior to buying mine (got this) showed me that these are better since they are "sonic" toothbrushes as opposed to "electric" toothbrushes which the oral B are (at least when i bought oral had no sonic brushes). Basically an electric toothbrush is just a like normal toothbrush where the motor does the work. A sonic toothbrush vibrates at a crazy high frequency instead of typical brushing and cleans the teeth and gums that way.

Here is just one official study of quite a few i read: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9487838

Overall, this study demonstrates that long-term use of these two electric toothbrushes improves periodontal health in adult periodontitis patients, and that the Sonicare brush is superior to the Braun brush in reducing gingival inflammation and probing depth. Moreover, 6 months' use of Sonicare led to actual improvement in probing attachment levels of periodontal pockets.

So yeah this is basically the best toothbrush out at the moment baring some fancy commercial dentist brush. Up to you whether it is worth the price though. That being said i love mine and am happy with my purchase.

        • I have to disagree with you there.
I used both and i found the oral B performs better around the gum line area due to the brush head design and far more reliable. The Philips ultrasonic does clean better, but it doesn't clean well around the gum line. Unless u specifically try to target those area, which takes a lot more time. In addition to that, this particular model is not reliable. The on/off button will have water leakage between 9-14 months. Or the "vibrator" doesn't pulse like it used to be. I bought the Philips toothbrush 2 times, and had it replaced under warranty 3 times within the last ~4-5 years….

    • I'm quite tempted to try out a sonic toothbrush, but haven't seen anything convincing enough to make me take the plunge.

EDIT: perhaps I should clarify: I currently use an Oral B electric toothbrush, and can't see a compelling reason to switch, other than Philips using better batteries.

EDIT 2: reading up on a few studies, the general consensus is that both electric and sonic toothbrushes are far better than manual brushing, but electrics are better than sonics.

    • But no cashback..

  • The sonicare toothbrush is cheaper at Costco, and includes a bonus Sonicare AirFlosser. Theres not much difference between the diamond clean and the professional model.

    • CostCo sells this? Would you remember roughly how much, and which model? Thanks!

      • Its pushing my memory, but I think I paid around $169.

But, that aside, don't walk -run and buy the toothbrush. Amazing. Actually works. The only thing I don't like is the lack of resellers for the replacement brushes. You're stuck with shaver$hop, and amazon.

      • it wouldn't be the diamond…

  • Sonicare Healthywhite twin pack for $199 is a better deal: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Philips-Healthy-White-Dual-Ha…

Less 15% less cashback so $85 per brush.

    • that's not the diamond. don't buy it… it looks to be the professional model… in which case it is quite expensive.

      • They are essentially the same product as far as brushing tech.

Also the Diamond Clean heads work on the Healthy White…so you can buy them up front or swap the included HW heads with DC when they need replacing.

We've used the HW handles with HW and DC heads and they are not noticeably different. Sonicare is awesome though…much better than Oral B.

The Diamond Clean handle is a waste of money IMO.

I've yet to find cheaper than ShaverShop for the twin pack HealthyWhite.

  • +1

My local Harvey Norman were clearing them out at $150 last week - and yes, it was this model. I already had one, but got it for my GF. Previously had a good OralB and the Philips is much better.

    • wow… still for sale?

      • +1

Was in a bunch of stuff on a table with a dodgy looking 50% off sign. A bunch of different Philips (and Remington) products. I reckon because they're dropping them. This was 18 days ago (not a week) and they had about 4 of this model. I wouldn't think they'd have any left, but it was Launceston HN.

        • Thanks.

Tasmania always gets the best deals…

        • +1

I saw a bunch for sale at HN reduced for $169 a few weeks back too. Pretty good price, it's much cheaper preventing tooth decay than getting dental work done at the dentist. People might think it madness paying $200 on a toothbrush, but then some of those people will rack up $1000's to fix up their teeth that they could have avoided by using a better brush.

        • @Ronnnie: Yes, I wish I'd had one of these and a Waterpik all my life.
